I should probably feel bad about this...

Universe of Superheroes, the comic book store in Athens, Ohio, was mostly destroyed in a fire. I didn't go in to Universe very often, but I really appreciated the fact that they had a huge selection of graphic novels and TPBs in-stock at all times instead of just the floppies. However, I was scared of the staff ( Read more... )

O_O

Geesh, I started out feeling bad for this store, but after reading your experiences with them, my sympathy went right out the window.

Well, it was mostly just the one guy, but he ran the place, so I couldn't really get away from him.

We need to have coffee soon! Maybe tomorrow? Or would sometime next week be better?

Coffee sounds great! Tomorrow is good for me. I'm going to work a couple hours in the slide room in the morning, but other than that, my Saturday is pretty much wide open. Next week is good too, if it turns out Saturday isn't a good time. ^_^

What's a good time for you tomorrow?--er, well, today, technically ^_~

Sometime in the evening would be best. I have to do some studying for my "Current World Problems" test on Monday. Nazis!

Maybe around 8?

Yes, I say karma!

Why do so many comic book store owners/employees have to be d-bags?

I bet if a bunch of women got together and opened a comic book store they'd make a nice piece of change as women would flock to a store that wouldn't make them feel like idiots for wanting to read comics!

I wish I knew. The store in my town is owned by a really nice guy named Mike, but there used to be another store that was run by an honest-to-God child molester. Thank God it went out of business, although I wish that man was in prison.

Argh, is he the one who raped a friend of Jeeg and Jake? The one they saw at RenFest and wanted to rip his throat out?

Thank goodness for Mike. He's a great dealer ^_^

Yep. That guy. He used to run/own M&M Comics.

Mike is fantastic! And the majority of his customers are really nice too ^_^

how did the fire start!?

Angry female customers set the store ablaze.

Not really.

Unfortunately, I don't think the article said how it started.

Gah, I cannot understand why so many comic book stores are so hostile to women.

Wait.

Actually I can, but that's even more depressing. *sighs*

Girls have cooties. Throw phones at their heads.

Throw phones at their heads.

I have to say, that's a very specific form of aggression. Not rocks, not bricks, not Ipods. No, phones! get them!

X)

Also, creepy comic store guys are not awesome. I no longer visit the one here because the guy there was.. very weird. He was going to investigate me some prices of back numbers and asked my phone to let me know when he got a hold of them, and ended up calling me to flirt and be... weird. If that was flirting. I.. never came back. I should have thrown the phone at him!

Karma gets to everyone. It's only fair!

I don't understand it either. I was sitting outside of the comic book store, drinking coffee with a couple of friends, when David comes outside, yells "Phone attack!" and chucks it at my head! He missed, fortunately.

I should have thrown the phone at him!

I agree! And it would have actually made sense too!

Karma works!! :)

I always feel intimidated whenever I look at comics in a bookshop, because I'm the only girl there! I guess I'm lucky since the other place I get most of my comics from is a general sci fi store, so they're kinda more used to girls in there...

My regular comic book store is actually pretty friendly, even though I'm pretty much the only girl as well. Instead of being like "Yuck! Cooties!", most of the men very respectful and a little shy : )

What? Women enjoy sci-fi? Blasphemy!
