I wrote an entry last night, then turned off my compy and went to bed and forgot about it. But thanks to LJ it has been revived!
I just applied for a job at Grain and Grape (the greatest brewing shop in australia), which is awesome, but it's in Yarraville, which means I might have to reasess housing. Ideally Ascot Vale (Travancore looks great) or something west of Brunswick, but if it's not too far out I could deal with east of the city. I'm starting to look on flatmatefinders.com.au, because I can't apply for a lease if I'm leaving in 6 months, so I need an existing lease, or someone else to take responsibility for it, and it seems I don't have enough frendz in the position.
I brewed an American Pale Ale yesterday, if all went well it should be 5-6%, about 40IBU, and have absolutely nothing wrong with it. Not sure about colour. I brewed a 50/50 grain/extract batch so instead of just steeping specialty grains I mashed/lautered/sparged 2kg of barley and 2kg of DME. It took all freaking day, but it was fun.
Weasel keeps stealing my stuff. I think he's in love with me and anxious that I won't go round there again if he doesn't have something of mine. Poor guy.
Oh, and it's official, regarding my last entry (and to confirm that this is just a beer diary), I can tell the difference between Trois Pistoles and Maudite now, and Trois Pistoles (strong dark ale) takes the cake. Maudite (strong red ale) is good, but probably better after 2 years in a cellar.
The winner!
I drank another St Bernardus 12 last night, and confirmed that it is the most heavenly beer out. I seriously got lost in it, and around it, I should build a shrine to it. Or at least a website with some rotating gif's and a sparkling shrine animation.
Lastly, in more beer related news, I'm hosting a 4 course beer dinner tomorrow night in a restaurant in brighton for 40 heads alongside Mountain Goat. I'm both excited and nervous. I don't know a lot about matching with food, I usually leave that to wine snobs, or Chuck Hahn, but I guess it's pretty important. Maybe I'll do some research tonight. Maybe.
It's over!
