A New Job (Kinda) and a Rare but Pleasant Occurence!

Feb 03, 2010 02:19

It's been awhile since I actually posted anything resembling a journal entry about the day-to-day goings-on of my life...so I thought I'd just start now, and hopefully make it a more regular thing ( Read more... )

I'd feel so silly posting them. I'd probably be happier writing something new rather than trying to put some of those old stories up. I know that the father of my German Luftwaffe Major was inspired by Dietrich... so somewhere in my stories I wound up changing tunes entirely... so I honestly don't think they should get posted... do you guys care about drabbles/droubbles? I'm good at writing those when I'm testing out the waters of a new/old fandom.

Heh, this is a growing trend for me apparently... but I started with series 2 of "The Rat Patrol" and the very first episode was the one about a mother and her little girl being caught in the crossfire, and how both sides joined together to rescue the little girl. I loved the ending and how Dietrich wasn't happy with how the other Germans were dishonouring the ceasefire.

Oh gosh, don't give me ideas for a Doctor Who/RP crossover. Yes, I am into the new one, but I am looking at the old one as well. I love my Daleks. :D Hee, I wish I could have seen RP when it first came out! I'm just glad that dad got me into it. He decided that he wasn't as much into it as he thought he was, which was why he was glad that I took to it like children to candy. I have both sets now and an incredible urge to watch them all over again.

Heck, I might just find me a picture of our lovely Hauptmann and post it here. :D I write quite a bit of fic for all the fandoms I love, including the new "Doctor Who". I think I write them too much... especially the Daleks. *smacks self*

It's up to you of course, but I'd still love to see the stories. Of course, if it was done when you were younger & not quite as experienced as a writer, they could always be updated & edited. As for drabbles, I love them, although ideally I'd love to see a really long story. But, drabbles are great, as are "missing scenes", "alternative endings" & "sequels" to the too short original episodes. So, I say GO FOR IT! And, if you haven't read the RP fic already available here on LJ, you should do so. I think you'd enjoy it. Jen C

It wouldn't be lack of experience as a writer... because I've been writing all my life, it's more like I just don't feel like sharing them with anyone. I'm still quite unhappy with the conclusion of the second season of RP because we just don't know what happened to our favourite Hauptmann. :(

I've read a couple of the fics on FF.net but since my comp has decided to start hating that site, I don't visit it often. I've been so busy lately writing and reading books for research I haven't really had much time to invest in reading fanfic other than the ones that I am asked to read. So if you have any recs, let me know.

I don't go for slash or stuff that involves sex, just saying. :) I'm a WWII buff who loves the European theatre as well as the North African campaign. My interest for the South Pacific extends as far as the Windtalkers and the Corsairs of Black Sheep Squadron, the P-40s, and that's it...

The one and only! I love the old military/war tv shows and Black Sheep Squadron was one of those that I also instantly fell in love with. "McHale's Navy" took a lot for me to warm up to but all the love I had for it died with the fourth series. But yes, I love Black Sheep Squadron! My favourite episode was when the WASPs stayed at the base.

AWESOME.:D

Oh me too..I loved war films all my life but only got into the tv shows last year. Can't get enough of them now.:D

I've only seen about 5-6 episodes of the first season of McHale's Navy, not enough to tell whether I really liked it or not. I may pick it up sometime...
Out of curiosity, what happened in the fourth series?

There are some episodes of McHale's Navy that just drag on. There are a few though that just made me laugh so hard. One of the episodes got me hooked to the song, "Hut-Sut Rawlson on the Rillerah" and it has appeared numerous times in various stories of mine. In fact, I gave it to my young, 1950s junior detective, who uses it as a code for "Detective in trouble!"

"McHale's Navy" is slapstick humour when Americans could do it right. I could only take so much of it though before it got old. When they went to Italy, I thought it would be awesome. But I wound up hating most of the series and was thankful that there wasn't anymore.

That's when we got back into "Adam 12" and "Emergency".

Tim Conway was pretty funny in the episodes I saw (I love him in the old Disneys The Apple Dumpling Gang),but yeah I noticed in a couple episodes the plot seemed to lag.:P

I haven't heard that song but that's cute.:D

Ah,Adam 12! I keep meaning to see that.. I love cop/detective/spy shows.<3

I love Black Sheep Squadron! I've always had an interest in WWII, ever since I was young. And I was one of very few students who actually loved history, but more from my own reading (& watching documentaries-love the History channels). As for slash, it's not my cup of tea, but after I'd finished everything I could read on-line, I read a few. (although not all have sex). I actually had thought "slash" was a violence rating! But, pretty much no way could the captain I know be gay, but that's just me. I agree with you regarding the end of RP; it was very unsatisfying. But, I guess I always thought of the captain as somehow making it back to Germany (as opposed to becoming a POW) & becoming a part of the German Underground/Resistance, once he realized just how evil the Nazi's were. (North Africa was a far cry from what was going on in Europe). I even see him as being part of any number of the Hitler conspiracies. But it's late, & I'm at my sisters, so heading home. But, so glad I found this thread! Jen C

The stories I wrote actually had him getting captured and sent to a POW camp in the US. I had read a lot about the de-Nazification and found it to be quite interesting. Plus, I wanted to see him lead men again. Like you, I can't see the characters, much less him, being gay. After all, homosexuality was condemned by Nazi Germany and offenders were usually taken to camps to be exterminated. So that really makes no sense to me either...

I don't think I'd want him being part of the Hitler assassination conspiracies because he'd get killed... :/ Have fun!
