I think our fish just attempted to play a game of hide-and-seek with me. He's very patient.

I realized/articulated two things:
1. Why I like genderbending Merry and Pippin. It's a story pet peeve of mine when I can't distinguish characters apart in my head. No matter what, even if you're Tolkien, if I can't keep straight who's who, or how these people differ, I'm going to care less about the characters. Merry and Pippin are a good example. I just have trouble telling them apart, even in the film, which makes them look very different. But making Merry and Pippin into girls in-my-mind distinguishes them, first, from Frodo and Sam, second, from each other (Pippin is more like Anne Shirley, Merry is a bit closer to Diana Barry). Also, genderbending characters as I'm reading about them is a new experience for me. And admit it: the idea of femme Pippin and Merry in the armor of Gondor and Rohan, hardened warriors, is too cool to pass up.
2. The other day we watched a documentary about the Rwandan Genocide in class, with talking about the Somalian wars and a bit about the AIDS epidemic just for good measure. I noticed that I was almost entirely emotionally shut down while watching it. And I remembered that this has happened before -- mostly during Holocaust movies and documentaries watched during high school. My teacher says this is a perfectly normal reaction to stress.
3. Mentioning to the class at large that you watched a large number of Holocaust documentaries in high school is probably a good way to convince the entire class that you're Jewish and went to a Jewish high school. Even when that is completely opposite to the truth.
4. The obesity epidemic in America is a grave and serious issue and must be dealt with. I will deal with it by continuing my path as a blossoming pastry chef.
