For Auld Lang Syne

Dec 31, 2010 23:49

Well, as promised, it's time for a 2010 recap.

What's sad is, this time last year I did a tarot reading asking how my upcoming year was going to go. But it was confusing because I wasn't sure which card was "January," and it went in a circle, so I got two different possible outcomes. And now I can't find my Tarot notebook, where the reading was recorded.
What I do remember is that there were lots of coins, and what-I-think-was-January had the Two of Wands, indicating a longing to go on a journey. Appropriate. And the coins make some sense - it was a year of hard work, but also of monetary gains.

Summary:
January was the Canterbury Tales class, and pilgrimage, complete with London, Oxford, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Canterbury (with sea_thoughts !), and Paris, with Julie. Amazing - though it's always kind of sad when the best part of your year happens in late January to early February.
Is it a sign that I waited too long to buy a calender for this year, and ended up getting a so-so one from the British Museum? A sign of this year...
Then it was back to Whittier for Spring Semester. Classes were good, except for French Literature part II, and I started to work on my new story of pilgrims, plus the constructed world I'm making (which I think I'll call Pandia.) I wrote an entire screenplay, too, although now it's looking very silly. Decided I wasn't ready to start really writing my pilgrimage story, and tried to dedicate my gears to Ollivander. But the major occupation of time was the AOKP XXX reunion - and wasn't that a blast!
Summertime was very boring, and I had my parents' disapproval and my own guilt for not getting out and doing more, until I got a job. You remember how that went. It really wasn't that bad in hindsight (though I was justified about the ISBN numbers), and I got paid very well for it. I'm glad I did it, now, very glad.
All summer I also ran court, AND sent out In-Court Reports. And I read as many children's books as I could get my paws on. To questionable effect: I found some great new books, but the Newbery also lost its luster.
Though the highlight of my summer was definitely voyaging up to Emeryville to visit Sabrina. It cemented my decision to go to Paris, it was an exciting adventure to travel on my own, and it was a wonderful journey to a fabulous city to visit a dear friend! Win all around.
In fall, I started new classes and life as a Peer Mentor. My classes were overall better this semester, though now I'm very upset that I took Video Production because my Children's Lit class was cancelled. If only, if only...
Started work on my application for the Iowa Writer's Workshop - pilgrimage, here I come! And Ollivander progresses slowly.
Finals season was terribly hectic, and though I thought that I had worked out enough for the Sweetbriar program, I failed to reckon with the consulate (major, major fuck-up.) This in combination made December an extremely busy month, and then flying out to Massachusetts with Mom was also very draining. But as the French Visa sitting on my bed, the nicely burdened notebooks, the good report card, and the happy mother can attest, all this work has really paid off. Perhaps that's what December's card - the 10 of Coins - referred to.

Or just the completion of a year that wasn't quite so eventful, but nonetheless, very very good.

And I have a beautiful Zodiac calender with which to mark the new year. Cheers, everyone!

new year
