36. Tracy Mack & Michael Citrin's Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars: Casebook No. 1: The Fall of the Amazing Walendas (review book, will be released sometime next Autumn) was a fast-paced and fun take on the Sherlock Holmes mythos, though concentrating more on the young street boys called the Baker Street Irregulars than on Holmes himself. It is apparently the first in a new series.

The mystery to be solved in this book is the death of a family of tightrope walkers during their performance at a circus and how their deaths connect to the whereabouts of a precious artifact that has been stolen. The story is told through the boys viewpoint, with Holmes and Watson appearing in the background. It was a well-written and entertaining detective story aimed at c. 9-13 year olds.

Tonight I've read quite different fiction, since I just finished reading kattahj's very good (and long :)) Buffyverse fic starring Faith & Robin. You can find it here (the link takes to the last chapter since the page has links to all the previous chapters as well).

I'm also about a third of the way through Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford and have liked it this far. After finishing it, I'll probably continue with more Gaskell in the form of Wives and Daughters and North and South (library finally had a copy available).
