I'm beat. I'm looking for a new job and I had two different job interviews today (I should know the results by early next week) and then I had to go and show some extra papers to the unemployment people, because they hadn't asked for them or had made some mistake about needing them the first time I was there. *mutter, mutter, stupid bureaucrats, grumble, grumble*...
In between I swung by the library to pick up the two Elizabeth Gaskell novels (Cranford and Wives and Daughters) I had reserved. The showing of the BBC miniseries of North and South last Autumn is clearly visible in the
Helsinki library system, because all copies of N&S have several reservations, but most of Gaskell's other works are quite readily available. I suspected that it would take a while before I got my hands on N&S, so, while waiting for that book to be available, I decided to try some other books by her.
Recent reading has included (16.) Karen Robards, Andrea Kane, Linda Anderson, Mariah Stewart's romantic suspence anthology Wait Until Dark which was quite entertaining - at least a lot better than the last romantic anthology I read. I've also read some comics: (17.) Alan Moore, &c.: Tom Strong: Book 1 and Sanami Matoh's shounen-ai manga Fake, volumes 1-7 (18.-24.). The main story of Fake tells of two youngish male cops and their mutual attraction and romancem. Some of the secondary characters are also developed further during the series and provide some angst, plenty of humour, and some tension to the storyline. I quite liked this.
On other news, Lost is starting on Finnish tv today, which is probably no surprise for any Finn reading this. Nelonen, the tv channel that starts to show it has been promoting it constantly for at least a couple of months now. I think the promotion has even gone a bit overboard and people are starting to get tired of the constant reminders that "Lost is starting!!!". At least I am. But then I have already seen the first season on DVD (and am doing my best to avoid spoilers for Season 2!).
