I had a really lovely day at my sister's yesterday. My sister and her husband had their wedding anniversary and they wanted to the movies in a matinee showing and for a couple beers, maybe meal after the movie. She asked if I'd come to keep on eye on the kids, and since I had the day off, of course I agreed.
The children and I watched Labyrinth which I've been meaning to show them for ages and also about half of Ella Enchanted before going outside to play for a bit. I.e. children and their friend from the same building were playing and I was just sitting there in the sun :D. I think I even got a few more freckles out of it (but didn't burn, thank goodness).
At some point Eemeli and his friend Luka decided to have a water fight. Ronja and I came out again a bit later and since she didn't have a watergun, Luka's father gave her a 1,5l plastic bottle filled with cold water with which she totally drenched both the boys while yelling "tyttövoimaa!" (= girl power!). The end result was, of course, two totally dripping wet children, but it worked marvelously to burn off some energy and to cool them in the hot weather.
After my sis and brother-in-law came home ate together and I ended up staying the night, especially since we adults had some wine and ended talking until about 2-3 a.m. on their balcony. I had work today, but considering how late we stayed up, I felt surprisingly awake.
Regarding the current heatwave, my apartments gets really uncomfortable in this kind of weather. All my windows face West, which means the sun shines on them from about noon until it sets in the evening. Even though all the windows and the balcony door are open and the windows are covered with light-blocking curtains, it gets really hot in here. Today it was like 32°C (c.89°F) when I got home from work. At least my workplace has air conditioning…
On more family related things, I spent the Midsummer weekend at my mother's. The weather was fairly cloudy with small showers every now and then, but at least we managed to have our evening meal outside on Midsummer eve.
Here are some pictures from the weekend, taken with my new cellphone camera (I got a new cellphone from work a couple of weeks ago and it has a really really good camera - one of my main reasons for choosing this model from the list of available choices :)):
The old sauna building at my mother's
Some flowers on the yard
The corner of the house and a bit of the garden
Some of the meal before they were put on the grill (pork, zucchini, halloumi cheese, bacon-wrapped garlic-cheese filled mushrooms)
Om nom nom!
My mother's cat Muusa wondering whether corn is edible.
And apparently it is :).
