Kaminey & Sarkar

I had a fun day together with sassiefin. We watched a couple of Bollywood movies, had some wine, and salmon-veggie-noodle-wok. And she left again with more loans than what she returned to me :D...

I also got to test run my new DVD player (Procaster DVD-004, n. 50€ verkkokauppa.comissa), and I have to say that it was great. Very nice price/quality ratio there, since it's a cheapo region free player, but it played both the Indian DVDs without a hitch. There was some very minor hiccuping with Sarkar, but we still managed to watch the whole movie through. A big improvement on my old DVD player which wouldn't play the DVD at all...

The first film we watched was Kaminey which we both enjoyed a lot. It had a smart, twisty plot where you had to pay attention to what was going on the screen all the time. I've liked all Vishal Bhardwaj films I've seen and this was no exception. Shahid Kapur did a great job as identical twins who live in very different worlds. Priyanka was also nice in this not-so-glamorous role.

Sarkar was an interesting adaptation of The Godfather, but it was a bit too slow-moving at times with lots of intense staring and no dialogue. Still seeing Amitabh and Abhishek as father and son, plus Kay Kay Menon as the other son was an interesting experience. I liked the way Abhishek's character developed through the movie and the way the ending mirrored the first scene. It was an okay film, but not as good as Kaminey.
