Yasuko to Kenji

Jul 24, 2008 02:00

I watched the first episode of this yesterday, and it was hilarious! The story is centred around the brother-sister pairing mentioned in the title.

Kenji (Matsuoka Masahiro, or Mabo) used to be the leader of a bike gang, but now works as a shoujo mangaka under the female penname of Sakuraba Reika, with two of his former gang members as his assistants.

He's bit of an over-protective tyrant as a brother, and 17-year-old Yasuko (Tabe Mikako) is feeling completely stifled by him.

He still treats her like a small child and is ignoring the fact that she has grown up and would like to do normal stuff now (like going to karaoke with friends or meet some boys)...

That is just the basic premise, but then there is the actual drama, which looks hilarious!!!

Kenji's entry to Yasuko's shool was so funny - everybody treated him like a gangster and gawked when he was walking in the hallway :). Even her teacher thought he was some yakuza come to collect a debt :P.

Working on his manga with his assistants :D:

Credits:

Then there is the new flower shop owner, Tsubaki Erika (Hirosue Ryoko), who used to live in the town 10 years ago.

Yasuko's first meeting with the new transfer student Tsubaki Jun (Tadayoshi Ohkura, or Tacchon) couldn't have been worse, since she stumbles in front of him, but he seems like a very nice guy and later returns her named handkerchief.

LOL! When they go to the flower shop after school, Erika's reaction when she hears Yasuko's name is clearly not the best. She apparently knew Yasuko's brother in the past, but she hides it fast. Her assistant obviously recognized the name as well :).

When Kenji sees the flower she got, he goes into berserk overprotective brother mode and throws a big tantrum saying he'll never allow her to be with a boy... He still sees her as a complete child.

Heh, he certainly knows what threats will be the most effective with a young girls :D...

She has detention after shool and a lot of work to do, but Jun walks by her class and offers to help her with it. He seems really nice, like I've already mentioned :)!

Though it looks like she isn't getting that much done since she spends most of her time staring at him :D.

Heh heh, Kenji's reaction when Yasuko doesn't get home by 4 p.m., as he demanded, is predictably annoyed. He can't even reach her on her phone! (Mabo just makes the greatest faces XD)

But then his rage turns into real concern when there is a report in the news about a kidnapped schoolgirl and the newscaster mentions that there have been several kidnappings in that month.

LOL!!! Stalking his little sister... Though she has clearly developed a radar that immediately tells her when he is around... She runs off with Jun-kun and they hide from her brother (she doesn't want to tell him who the guy chasing them is, because she is too embarrassed :)).

I wonder who and what is this gangster guy named Aota who looks intent on pestering Erika - and earlier on it looked like he recognized Kenji as well?

To put him off, she tells the guy that she came back to town because she wanted to meet her first love again (obviously Kenji). Neither Jun-kun nor Yasuko are aware of the guy's identity at this point :).

Erika had to leave him when she was 18, but now she is determined to win him back. It's amusing how Erika seems to have two different sides to her: she's normally a very gentle-seeming person, but when something or someone annoys her, she turns into a complete dragon :).

LOL! When Erika asks Yasuko if she possibly has a brother, her mental image is of a total ogre, and she says that she doesn't have a brother, she is an only child.

Awww, Jun-kun escorts her home and finally her dream comes true: a boy asks for her cellphone number. But of ourse Kenji appears around to ruin the moment, also revealing her lie about being an only child.

LOL! No wonder she was terrified of Kenji embarrassing her XD...

Kenji wasn't there for Yasuko when their parents died because he was somehere with his gang, and it looks like he is over-compensating because of his guilt. Still, he genuinely does love his little sister. The scenes from the time when Yasuko was still little are SO CUTE!

It looks like her angry words that she would have been happier as an only child really hurt him :(, but that is bound to happen with fights among close family.

After the fight with her brother is over, she meets Jun-kun, but then they are harassed by some gang boys who beat him up, and then threaten Yasuko. I can already imagine both rika and Kenji riding to the rescue... :D

*squee*

LMAO!! Erika arrives on the scene after Kenji has taken care of the punks who were threatening his sister, and is now telling Jun to stay away from her :D.

Then she realizes who the guy is and panics for a bit :D, but then he makes her angry and they are fighting again...

But all the posturing makes Yasuko realize that the guy Erika is in love with (she was talking about it earlier) is none other than her ogre of a big brother :D.

This drama looks hilarious, though I think some of the themes and expressions might become a bit too repetitive and tiresome after a while. Still, I like the OTT humour in it.

I couldn't help making a couple of icons from this episode...

In other drama stuff, I'm really excited that the rumour of an Autumn drama with Ninomiya Kazunari, Nishikido Ryo and Toda Erika has been confirmed. It sounds interesting, though the description made me immediately think of Kurosagi...

Also, The Legend continues to be very addictive. I was just supposed to watch it for a bit today while downloading some stuff, but I ended up watching an entire episode :). It's great!!!
