The Element of Fire
Continuing to read old favourites after the Alanna series. This time it was The Element of Fire by Martha Wells. It's her first published novel, but on rereading, it's as excellent as ever. The characterisations, the action and everything else in the book is just so solid and believable and engaging. It's hard to put the book down, so it's still as good on a reread as on the first read, which has made made me an instant fan and has led me to buy every one of her other books at one time or another.
At the moment, I'm reading the first book in Tamora Pierce's Immortals quartet. I really liked the Alanna series on my first read and the second read only reinforced this liking, so I decided to get some more books by her. The local bookstore seemed to have most of the books in the Immortals series. The annoying thing, of course, is that they only had parts 1, 3 and 4 of the series with part two on order and only available sometime later :P. Figures!
