I've always wondered about translating books into other languages, do they manage to capture the same flair?

I guess translations depend quite a lot on the translator's skill. I've read some brilliant translations that really capture the original text's flair, but then I've also read really bad translations that are dull and full of mistakes. As I said, depends on the translator.

I guess it would, I'm not good enough to read books in anything but English so I can't find out until my language skills improve.
