Koi Uta

The 20 minute minidrama on Tackey & Tsubasa's recent "Koi Uta/PROGRESS" single is the best cd extra I've seen in a long time! I just watched it and am still sniffling a bit while writing this. Quite fitting with the song's lyrics, the drama is very sad and beautiful.

"Koi Uta" didn't really grab me at first. For example, when I watched the first episode of Osen I barely noticed the song (it's the ending theme of the drama), but it has really been growing on me with repeat listening. "Yakusoku -Last-" I liked already when I heard it in the Premium Live DVD, but "Progress" or "Glory Days" haven't yet made much of an impression on me. I guess I must listen to them a few more times.

Takki plays an angel who is watching over a blind girl who stays locked in her house, afraid to go out. Tsubasa plays her childhood friend who is trying to help her and to make her face the world again.

Angel!Takki recites several times the maxim that angels must not affect people's lives, otherwise they lose their immortality and disappear. But the angel can't stand the girl's pain and does end up helping her. I loved the anguished look on Takki's face when he was holding his arms open to her, but she only passed through him without noticing him at all. This was the part where I started getting misty-eyed.

Actually, it takes both angel!Takki and Tsubasa's character to help the girl. By helping her and through his self-sacrifice, Takki!tenshi gains his wings and in the end it looks like even though he has lost his immortality, he has become human. I interpreted the way he looked at Tsubasa and the girl, that he had forgotten what he did as an angel, but there was some kind of memory left in his subconscious which made him notice the pair and look after them when they walked past him. It looks like every one of them is back in light and sunshine when the drama ends.

I'm really hoping Takki would do another proper drama one of these days, not just one of those drama specials he acts in every now and then! And preferably one where nobody dies :P! Tsubasa appearance in this was also good, as was the woman playing the blind girl. She played being blind so convincingly. The little kids in the flashback scenes were very cute as well.

I watched the subbed version by newshfan, because I wanted to understand what the story was about, but I also received my own copy of the CD+DVD set today before I left for work, so that now that I know what the dialogue means, I can rewatch it with better quality picture on my tv :).

Sigh, maybe I'll finally have time and energy tomorrow or the day after to write the massive 'latest reading' post which I've been putting off ever since I got back to work after my holiday.
