You know, whenever I go back to university to finally finish my degree (I do intend to finish it at some point, since there is so little left to do...), I'm highly tempted to try to find some classes on popular culture and fandom studies. But I don't think the University of Helsinki has any of those.
There might be something similar in one of the cross-departmental things, like Kristiina-instituutti (Women's Studies). Actually, that might suit my interests the best. Since fandom, fanfic, JE fandom, etc. from a feminist point of view are something that might be really interesting to study :).
Still, I do have my thesis subject sort of figured out, and it has remained the same throughout the years. And it's not fandom. My major is English Philology after all, so a literature based thesis (rewritten fairy tales by Anne Sexton: Transformations, Angela Carter: The Bloody Chamber, Sheri S. Tepper: Beauty, and most probably adding Fables to the mix) is in my thoughts and I have quite a lot of background literature and things thought out already, it's just actually writing out the damn thing :P...
Still, after I get back my right to study at the university (mostly a simple thing of filling out a study plan and sending out the application), I'll have access to all kinds of classes and can take "fun" classes in addition to the ones I need to graduate. I'm not interested in going back to the university right now, but I think I'll try to do it in a couple of years (maybe I'll get my degree before I turn 40, but I'm not stressing too much about it. Before 50 or 60 is just as good :D.)
