Galileo 5
Heh, Utsumi so obviously has a crush on Yukawa-sensei and he's, of course, completely oblivious of it. I like the mysteries, but the shippy stuff is also very much fun.
More Fruits Basket
Remembering how at least half of my reading list for last year consisted of manga, I guess it's rather fitting the first books for this year are also manga :). I've read some more Fruits Basket, volumes 12-15 (1.-4.) and the first comment that comes to mind is that my Akito hate just grows stronger and stronger with every volume I read of this manga (already merits it's own tag :P).
The images of Akito with a spiderweb pattern behind him are very fitting. All of the zodiac are caught up in his web and can't escape it however much they want to. Which is why I think Rin is never going to be able to break the curse, because she is one of the people caught in the trap. It has to be someone from the outside, a person like Tohru, as is strongly hinted in the story.
I think it's notable how many of the parents in this series are not that great, neglectful or down-right abusive (in the mental sense). Almost everybody in the zodiac seems to have some kind of trauma that relates to their childhood and to the way their parents treated them and the curse. No wonder quite a few of them are so messed up.
And add to the top of that Akito's way of finding the weakest spot in everyone and immediately going for it and spewing the most poisonous things that he possible can. He really is like a cruel and selfish little child who enjoys pulling the wings off of butterflies - only Akito's butterflies and playthings are the members of the zodiac.
I've actually felt physically sick from the hate and loathing I've felt for the character during some scenes (telling Kyo he would be shut up for the rest of his life, telling Rin nobody wanted her after knowing how her parents abandoned her, telling Yuki he's just Akito's toy whom Yuki's parents gave away, etc. etc.)
The Kureno-Uotani romance seems interesting. I wonder when and if it'll proceed and how.
Momiji is really cute and sweet, but the way he is isolated from his family is so sad. Especially after learning that his little sister Momo knows about him or at least suspects something since he looks just like her mother. She wants him to be her big brother. But it's their father who is keeping them apart, because he is afraid that it would ruin the artificial family idyll. Because it is artificial, since all other members apart from the mother know that one member of the family is missing :(.
Oh, Rin! She is so sad but awesome at the same time. She wants to do something about the curse, but it seems hopeless. Still she isn't willing to give up. Her parents are complete horrors, but I love her relationship with Haru - I'm starting to see why people really like this pairing :).
The school council business is pretty boring. Whenever it's going on, I'm just thinking that I want to get back to the Sohma or Sohma curse related things :D.
Random JE clips
The Daidaya (?) thing with Ryo where he had to ask a random stranger on a date was amusing for a while. It was really obvious that Ryo was totally embarrassed by the situation so he ended up drinking champagne way too much and too fast, so he ended quite tipsy by the end. The end was predictable, but I didn't find it funny :P.
Johnny's Countdown 2007-2008
I really looked forward to this and watched it streaming on New Year's Day - I have a better quality version waiting, but haven't yet watched it.
Well, half my f-list has already commented on the highlights, with screencaps &c. so what more is there say but that I really enjoyed it :). Seeing Toma was great. Ryopi&Akame "Seishun Amigo" was fun and Tomapi "Daite Senorita" rocked. NEWS+Arashi was great, especially Ninopi. Nagase/Koichi New Year's kiss :D. Ryo, the busiest man in the show :D. Plenty of Tokio footage. Kinki Kids & T&T interviews were adorable. Higashiyama-san! He always does appear at these things :).
Oh yes, almost forgot. Thanks to evil
dangermousie (for squeeing about it) and
allbloomedout (for providing me with a crunchyroll link), I watched the first episode of the kdrama Snow White. It looks like totally hilarious crack, though I'm sure it will get angsty at some point like all kdramas do :P.
Still, my main reason for continuing is Lee Wan who is a total hottie :). I love the slightly irritated and slightly amused expression he has with the heroine. And I've been promised (with screencaps :D) kissing already in the second episode...
