This weekend was the Helsinki Book Fair, but I gave it a miss, since I had promised my sister that I'd go take care of the kids as they had planned a weekend trip with several of their acquaintances. Ronja (almost 5) and Eemeli (3) are very nice and very well-behaved children, and I do enjoy taking care of them every now and then. Still, it's still pretty tiring to look after two active children, because at their age you have to be on a constant lookout for what they might have come up together :). Nothing bad, of course, but sometimes children think that something is a really good idea and would be great fun, but *cough* adults might not exactly agree with their reasoning...
They love Wallace & Gromit, btw, even though some of the things are a bit scary for them. I showed them the three short films when they stayed the night at my place some time ago and promised to take the DVD with me when I went to take care of them.
The scary stuff, the nasty robot dog in "A Close Shave", the suspenseful music combined with stakeouts in "Wrong Trousers", etc, just give a good excuse to snuggle close to me while enjoying the excitement :). Playacting the nasty robot dog or the robot trousers is always popular with them :D. I loaned my DVD to my brother-in-law, since he hadn't seen all of the films and when I left their place, all the family was again watching the moon is cheese trip in "A Grand Day Out"... :)
Even though I spent the entire weekend at my sister's, I still have a rest period as well, since I have four days in all free this weekend. Then I'll again be working for 10 days straight after which I'll have another 4-day weekend :).
On other stuff,
on the dorama front I've been trying out several of this seasons jdramas: the first episode of Yukan Club was okay, light mindless fun. I agree with the comments that it has some similarities with Hanadan in the setting and the way it looks like a lot of money was spent on it. Still, based on the first episode (hopes not to get lynched by fangirls), Jin couldn't act to save his life. And I'm sorry, but I just don't find him that attractive either *wonders what all the fuss is about*.
The others were ok. Yokoyama Yuu got to use his "I'm surrounded by idiots!" look a lot, Junno's yellow (I refuse to call it blonde) hair and blue contacts were as creepy as when I saw the first pics of him in this look. Still, he was surprisingly (or maybe not) convincing in his role as a narcissistic player who had women fall all over him.
I've not got the first episode of Galileo waiting, as well as the second ep. of Utahime. I might still check out Mop Girl if it ever becomes available as subbed ddls.
I've also started watching Stand Up!! which looks like very much fun. Though I have to say all the guys (Yamapi, Oguri Shun, Ninomiya Kazunari, Narimiya Hiroki) look so awfully young, since I've become used to seeing them in more recent roles.
I haven't been reading that much lately and the reading I've done has been some completely fluffy, forgettable romance anthologies. (144.) Mary Jo Putney, Jill Barnett, Justine Dare and Susan King's A Stockingful of Joy was a Christmas themed book and (145.) Jo Beverley, Karen Harbaugh, Barbara Samuel and Mary Jo Putney's Faery Magic was, as the name suggests, about stories involving faeries. Both of these anthologies were pretty forgettable, though good enough for commute reading. Still, immediately after I finished, both went to my
Bookmooch giveaway pile. It looks like when I have stressful periods at work (for example, learning lots of new stuff after changing a team), I always turn into something totally mindless and very very light in my reading material.
