Since the softsubs for this episode were released yesterday, I'm reading them in my word processor while watching this episode - at least that way I'll get a better understanding of what is going on...
LOL, Ken doesn't really remember that much about the previous day when the last picture was taken, because he was drunk and he only remembers trying to pick a fight with Tada-san and Rei at the time.
BTW, I'm completely envious of Yamapi's thick dark eyelashes, so just to start this commentary on a very shallow note, here's a screencap of them :D:
When he goes back, he is in a room with Rei who is dressed as a bride, which he immediately takes it as a good sign, especially when she tells him that she has decided she won't doubt and look away any more. But then it turns out it's only Rei's dress fitting and she was talking about her choice of a wedding dress :).
LMAO! Mikio's dress is ridiculous!!! "Singapore idol", indeed XD.
OMG! Tsuru!!! ROTFLOL!!! "Detective Conan"!!! XD XD XD
Ken, take action, don't just go on moping and giving her those longing looks (pretty as they are)! This really is the last chance you'll have for winning Rei!
It seems the five are hanging out together after a long time and most of them seem to be having fun (Ken, of course, is moping). I thought it quite significant that when they played board hockey, the opposing pairs were naturally formed of Eri & Tsuru and Ken & Rei while Mikio was filming them all with the video camera...
Oh, poor Ken, he is thinking about the fact that after the "You don't understand anything!" scene, Rei no longer called him Ken-zou, only Ken, and how every time he hears that it feels like the distance between them is growing bit by bit and there's nothing he can do to stop it :(.
Hee, I loved the scene where Tsuru yelled to Eri that he loved her over the speaker system in the shopping centre! And EEEEE! even more I loved the way Eri kissed him in the middle of the hallway right in front of everybody. They are so cute!
Now that they are all grown-ups, they have less time to just hang out together and they are reminiscing about the way it used to be when they were still in high school or at the university. At the time they knew all the little things that were going on in each others' lives, but now it's different and they are slowly drifting apart.
When the guys go to Rei's parents' house to film the wedding video, Rei's mother seems very happy to see Ken and even she is calling him Ken-zou-kun :). I like it how it shows that her parents like him and seem very comfortable with him.
Heh, Rei's father is saying on the video that he still doesn't approve of Rei's marriage to Tada-san! But when Tsuru says that's maybe being a bit too frank, he softens it by talking how concerned he is for her happiness and asks that Tada-san make his daughter happy.
Aww, they were all getting a bit misty and emotional at Rei's father's words - me included *sniff*.
Ken comes to quite an important realisation during this speech: marriage isn't just about two people, it concerns their families as well. Ken is concerned of every aspect of Rei's life, quite opposite to Tada who, when Rei asks him if he isn't curious why she was crying at that 20th birthday of hers says that he isn't interested in knowing the Rei he's never met. He is only interested in the here and now and on the future that they'll have together.
This and a few earlier scenes prove that Rei is still having doubts about marrying Tada-san. Every time her past closeness with Ken is mentioned, she looks so sad and wistful and when she brings her hatachi up, it's like she wants to confess to Tada-san that she used to have feelings for Ken. In a way it's also perfectly understandable that Tada-san doesn't want to hear anything like this right on the eve of their marriage.
Aww, there's a picture of Rei's grandfather and Ken is honoring him when he sees it.
And Rei's mother tells that Ken was always his favourite and that he used to say that that's the guy who Rei is going to be with. Rei, too, had said that she was really thankful for the way Ken helped her say to her grandfather the things she wanted to tell him before his death.
Ken and Rei's mother are looking at old pictures and she is remembering the time Ken always used to come play with Rei at their house, and how Rei even wanted to go to the same school as him. Young Ken-zou and Rei are so cute!
And you can see the light go on in Ken's mind when he finally remembers what happened when they were younger... They were playing on the playground and Rei's arm got hurt and he waited outside the doctor's office until she came out with her mom. Even Rei's mother was certain that she and Ken would get married one day.
It's quite promising to see how comfortable Rei's parents and Ken are together, especially when you remember that her father was rather vocal about his misgivings about her marriage to Tada-san, even though he softened it down a bit for the video.
Hmm, after saying that he looks good in the waiter's uniform, Rei is begging for compliments from Ken about her dress. It does matter to her what Ken thinks, and it's like she is still asking for his attention all the time.
Seeing the (tiny) scar on Rei's hand, he remembers again that time in elementary school when Rei fell and hurt her hand and his own words at the time: he promised to take care of Rei for the rest of his life! And how she accepted his offer at that time. (Chibi Ken and Rei are simply adorable!!!)
And he also remembers Rei's words about liking the way he never gave up once he had determined on achieving something.
YES!!!!! He is *finally* going to take some action and not just mope around staring at Rei like some love-sick puppy! He runs after Rei who is leaving the hall, grabs her hand and starts dragging her somewhere with him.
Meanwhile, in the burger shop some more decorations are taken out of their packages and one of them is the "Don't Knock New York" sign, which, amazingly enough, still has Ken's ring in one of it's tines!!
I just want to say that cliffhangers are EVIL!!! ONLY A LITTLE MORE THAN 12 HOURS TO GO UNTIL THE FINALE!!!
The previews look hopeful, because Ken and Rei are talking, Tada is looking worried while Rei is saying something to him and Rei is yelling "Ken-zou!" (the name she hadn't called him after the bridge scene), but on the other hand, why is the fairy looking worried and why is Ken crying?! The anticipation is killing me!
