"Oo, Romeo-sama, Romeo-sama..."

Apr 16, 2007 00:15

I watched the recent Japanese Shakespeare drama Romeo & Juliet raw (i.e. without subs), and from what I understood, the play is only an inspiration for this story, though it is being referenced quite a lot of the time. I was prepared for angst, but this is actually an extremely sweet love story (I was afraid of getting cavities, that's how sweet it was :)).

Be warned, this commentary - well, more of a picspam actually - consists of quite a lot of fangirly squee. Since I don't understand what they are talking about, I'll stick to capping everything that looks interesting *g*.

Mmmmmm..... I'd let Takki come pick up all of my junk anytime... He's so gorgeous that I even forgive the mullet!

EEEE! He saved the kitten from being run over at the risk of his life. How cute!

From the description of this drama at Drama Wiki, I gather the criminal being presented in in the beginning is Takki's character's, Hiromichi's father, Morita Tokieda. It seems he has killed some woman by throwing her down from the balcony of some building or something like that. I'm not quite sure.

Juri (in the middle) and her two friends.

First meeting. And you can see that it's clearly love at first sight, the way Hiromichi is silenced when he sees her. They both look completely mesmerized by the sight of the other one :).

Hee, Juri forgot her book in the park. Of course Hiromichi is going to return it to her and they are going to meet again that way.

His mother seems to be in the hospital. And it appears she is also wheelchair bound. EEE! He has such a beautiful smile!

Heh, she's clearly smitten and after meeting him "accidentally" in the park again (for dialogue, see here), she follows him to a restaurant and afterwards they go to the beach together. The bickering in the restaurant was funny and she must be really fast or that junky car of his is really slow for her to appear there just a few moments after him... BTW, I really love the lighting and colours in this drama!

Nagasawa Masami looks IMO much older than her real age. IIRC, she's 19, but she looks like she's in her mid-twenties or something.

EEEE! Smoochies on the beach (pictured from a very bad angle, however)!

Playful cuteness together.

They look so utterly cute and happy together. Here's he picking her up from college:

EEEE! He's even brought her to meet his Mom, without knowing that it was her father that was grilling her on her husband's whereabouts just a few minutes ago. How cute! Yes, I know that I'm completely overusing that word, but this is so cute and sweet :). Just be grateful that I haven't yet adopted the Japanese word "kawaii" into my vocabulary :D.

Then they meet her father on the hallway, because leaving the hospital, he thought he saw his daughter go in and returned to investigate.

Of course Juri is forbidden to meet Hiromichi again. And he's angsting over falling in love with the daughter of the police officer who is trying to find his father.

He's fighting with his mother, but immediately when he gets in his car, he calms down as he sees the jar with the yellow leaves, since they are a memento of his and her playful moments in the park.

Heeeee! He's just about to call her, but cuts off the phone before it can connect. And a minute later, his phone is ringing because she's calling him. Lovers' telepathy?! But he doesn't answer her :(.

He goes to the park in the middle of the night, because that's where they were at their happiest and where they first met as well.

And then he's outside her building. *squee* The dialogue (translated here) is so kawaii! (OK, I lied. I have already adopted it into my vocabulary :)) *thud*

OMG! She jumped off her balcony to be together with him! EEEEEEEEEEE!

I can see why all the young fangirls are having a huge hissy fit over Masami getting to act with both Takki and Yamapi (some of those girls and their comments are SCARY!), but I quite like her in this drama. I also really like the Takki/Masami pairing. She is a bit cutesy at times, but that completely fits her character: a young girl giddy with her first love.

Juri and Hiromichi both know that they can't escape forever and must return to their real lives soon. And the situation with his father and her father is rather difficult. I really really wish this were subbed, because I want to understand what they are saying!

Hmm, is there or has there been something going on between Juri's father and Hiromichi's mother?!

Oh no! They just miss each other! He's at her house and she's at his house :(. But EEEEEEE, he leaves her the jar with the yellow leaves. And she leaves him her play, "Romeo and Juliet". And then they are rushing to meet each other again and finally come together in the park. KAWAII!!!!

Confrontation between father and son.

More drama.

*thud* Takki cries even more prettily than Yamapi!

Wow! They waited a whole year before meeting again! And then it's the deceptive scene that was already shown right at the beginning, showing a seemingly dead Juri on the park bench.

Hiromichi is panicking, but then she starts laughing and gives him some of the candy she was holding in her hand :).

The end. This was an incredibly CUTE and SWEET love story! I loved it!!!
