I visited my mother last weekend. The weather was wonderful, sun shining from a cloudless sky and the temperatures at around 25-30 degrees Celsius. The weather has been mostly lousy this summer, so it was nice to finally be able to enjoy of a few days of sunshine.
I also managed to finish Sean Stewart's latest novel,
Perfect Circle. I've been buying his novels ever since I completely by chance got his debut novel, Passion Play, when it was first released. He's pretty versatile, and I guess his work could best be described as magical realism, though he has written a couple of fantasy and sf books as well. His Galveston won the
World Fantasy Award for Best Novel in 2001.
Perfect Circle tells about Will "Dead" Kennedy, a thirtiesh loser who hasn't stopped loving his ex-wife who he has a daughter with. He can also see ghosts and his family ghosts seem to want something from him. The story feels very real to life and despite his problems, you can't help liking Will.
