I've been too tired to update my LJ in the past few weeks. And since I don't yet have an internet connection at home, I'm forced to rely on the library's internet connection and most of the time there has been spent reading my e-mail and checking the various websites I follow regularly.
The stupid internet company still doesn't have an estimate how long it's going to take, but at least nowadays I have a work connection (now that I finally have my own desk and don't have anyone hovering around to teach me how to do my job :)).
The new job is at a company that serves companies that have outsourced their telephone operator services. I pretty much sit in front of the computer all day, and during the off minutes can surf around the internet/read my e-mail, etc. Though you do get tired of even that after a while...
Starting a new job is really tiring, because you have to learn all kinds of new stuff and concentrate all the time. Added to that was that since I was unemployed/holidaying almost all of the Summer, my sleep rhythm wasn't really suited to work hours (read: stay up late and sleep until noon or even later) and I've had to change that rhythm which is pretty hard, since I've always been more of a night person than a morning person.
Last weekend was Eemeli's (my nephew/godson) 2 year birthday party which was fun. There was mostly just family present and afterwards my mother and my youngest sister came to my place to stay the night. Eemeli is developmentally well ahead of his age group and since he's also fairly tall it's sometimes hard to remember how young he really is.
Since I was sure he would get enough toys, etc., I made a deal with my sister that I wouldn't buy him anything for his birthday, but would instead get something useful when it's needed (new winter clothes or something like that). With the rate he's growing, he's bound to need some new clothing sooner or later :).
Now that my schedule is evening up and I'm starting to get paid for work (first payday on Friday, yay!), it was time to make some purchases with the help of my friend's credit card. So, now I have Battlestar Galactica Season 2.5, Veronica Mars Season 2, Omkara and Bunty aur Babli heading my way. She also ordered House M. D. Season 2 for herself in the same shipment, so there will be plenty of tv watching in the near future :).
And not to even talk about all the new series that are starting on tv this Autumn: Rome, Lost Season 2, Prison Break, Grey's Anatomy, Doctor Who, Supernatural (well, I've seen S1 already, but that was on the tiny youtube screen), Project Runway, etc. etc. They are also going to rerun all season of Oz which is really great, since I got drawn late into the series and have missed quite a few episodes.
It looks like I'll turn into a complete couch potato, since there is going to be so much stuff to watch. When will I have any free time to read books with all this going on???
I'm sure I'll find the time somewhere. At least, I can read while commuting.
On to my recent reading:
149. Lisa Kleypas's Scandal in Spring is the fourth and last book in her Wallflowers series. Daisy Bowman, the daughter of a wealthy American businessman, is the youngest of the four girls and hasn't found a suitor during her seasons in London. Now her father is issuing her an ultimatum, that she must find someone to marry soon or she will be forced to marry her father's protegé, Mr. Matthew Swift. Daisy and her sister have always hated Mr. Swift, but when he arrives to England, Daisy finds him somewhat changed - in a good way...
After Scandal, I felt in the mood for another book by her, so I reread (150.) Because You're Mine which is set in the theater world. Logan Scott is a famous actor whom Lady Madeline Matthews sets out to seduce, because she wants to ruin herself in order to escape the marriage that her family has arranged between herself and an odious old man. She doesn't count on falling in love and being loved in return...
(151.)James A. Owen's Here, There Be Dragons and (152.) John Dougherty's Jack Slater Monster Investigator were a couple of YA/children's review books. Owen's book tells about a group of young men trying to save the Archipelago of Dreams from being destroyed. Dougherty's book is aimed for younger audience and the story reminded me a bit of the movie Monsters, Inc..
The Helsinki Film Festival will be starting again soon and I'm hard at work thinking what 11 movies I want to see with my 11 movie festivall pass. I'll have to make some decisions soon, since the individual tickets come on sale on Wednesday. At the moment, the only film that I'm sure about is Parineeta which is going to be this year's Bollywood entry, but all the other films are still completely open.
It was easy to find at least 20 films that seemed interesting in one way or another, but now I have to check their dates and times and to find out what films clash with each other, so that I can work out what films I can actually go and see. From a quick glance at my most-interesting list, there are at least four movies that have their only showing at exactly the same time, so I'll have to drop at least three of those and think of alternatives for them. I think I'll do what I did last year, and make an Excel timetable of the films...
