As I said previously, I felt like reading some fluff after the most recent books and so I ended March by reading the (53.) Christine Feehan, Maggie Shayne, Emma Holly & Angela Knight anthology Hot Blooded which I'd gotten from Old Schoolfriend. That brought the tally for last month's books up to 13.
The book itself was ok. The stories worked as light entertainment and even the Feehan Carpathian story wasn't awful (I think I've mentioned before that I don't really like some of Feehan's story cycles). Still, none of them were that memorable either, so the book will continue on it's way next time I visit Turku (next weekend :)).
Last Saturday was a company information & training session followed by a party. The information that was revealed there was pretty interesting, because the company had represented one telephone operator before that day, but switched into representing another operator after the head honchos in the first company decided to stop selling those products any more. Now there's lots of new stuff to learn and it'll be interesting how the change affects our sales.
The party was fun, though I did occasionally feel really old :p. The medium age for people working there is probably somewhere around 19 or 20 and I am almost twice their age. Still, I did have a nice time chatting with different people from all parts of the country, since all the company employees from all over the country were at the information & training part of the program and quite a few of them continued on to the party.
Sunday was then spent lazing around and reading (54.) Sharon Lee (
rolanni) and Steve Miller's (
kinzel) Sword of Orion which is the first book in their new YA series Beneath Strange Skies. It did have their trademark break-neck speed and action combined with a highly mannered society & aliens, but otherwise it felt a bit scattered and I just didn't get involved enough with the characters or their fate.
It just didn't grab like some of their Liaden books have done, and I didn't get the *More!* *Now!* feeling that I've sometimes gotten from some of their other books.
I'm also a bit ambivalent about Bones which started showing in local tv yesterday. The first episode was ok, and it was nice to see David Boreanaz playing something else than a brooding angsty vampire, but I'm not yet convinced about the show. It did look interesting enough that I probably will continue watching it even after a few episodes.
Today I then saw
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, yet another ok viewing experience. I'd only seen the first of the HP films before this and didn't think it was that great, but this film worked better as a film independent of the book.
Perhaps it also helps that it's been quite a while since I read the book, which incidentally is the last of the HP books I've read this far. I do own the two latter books in the series as well, but haven't just gotten around to reading them yet. As I've said before, there are too many books and too little time. Besides, I'm no big fan of the series, but think them entertaining enough.
And after I the joke in Kal Ho Naa Ho about the kid looking like Harry, I've always thought of them as the Hari Putter books :D.
