LINK [Background]
"I won my freedom. Yet my past has been cut away forever." [Personality]
To some extent, Fran is defined by the fact that she is largely unknowable even by her allies. Her past - even her age - are somewhat foggy and the way she interacts with the world is distinctly different in comparison to that of her hume companions. As a viera removed from her natural habitat, she has a complicated relationship with the natural world: both intimately tied to it and estranged. In some sense, natural elements and magics are something that are very much a part of her world - less an energy source and more a physical object, something to be touched and examined with as much ease as a sword or a cup. As a result, Fran is something like a perfect nomad: defined not by where she is in the world, but rather by who and what she shares it with.
Perhaps because of this, combined with her sharp senses, Fran is incredibly intuitive. She seems to have a distinct flair for seeing to the core of any conversation and something of a knack for deciphering the motivations and drives of others. That said, for the most part she is quite tactful - though she often says things that are fairly keen and thoughtful, she is rarely brusque or confrontational. Rather Fran has a maturity and grace which, coupled with her distinctly non-human insight, makes her out to be both frank and strangely alien (to most Hume's perception). However, as strange and foreign as she sometime is to humes, Fran seems to be as equally baffled by some of the things they do; though she has long since removed herself from the Wood and the company of her sisters, the world beyond the vale is no more her home than the one she left is. She operates at a constant distance, with an understanding of the world that is a strange combination of observational and almost academic knowledge. In some sense, Fran sees the world as a diagram: something both knowable and complex, something than can ultimately be broken down to very base components if she studies it with enough thoughtfulness. Despite her ties to the natural world and the typical implications therein, Fran is overwhelmingly logical in her approach to most things (a trait that probably greatly influences her skills as a mechanic).
Above all else Fran is curious: about the world, about the people living in it, about machines and flying and the ways people interact; in what drives people, in what drives nations, in understanding the relationships of people both apart from her and those she herself is dearly fond of. As a result, though she is largely analytical, she is willing to take risks in the name of her curiosity. Further, she is patient with people - largely because most of them are rather young to her -, and overwhelming fond of them, particularly if (like a certain sky pirate) they share her sense of curiosity. And if she doesn't like you -- well, she is very straightforward; you're likely to know it, and quickly. In terms of how people likely see her, Fran comes across as the sort of person who watches and listens as opposed to doing too much talking herself. Kind, but not overly familiar, there is a sense that she thinks far more than she ever says and that there is always, always some complex bit of thought going on behind those sharp red eyes of hers.
It is important to note that although Fran is estranged from her culture and the Wood, she still cares deeply for her sisters which remain there and for the Wood itself. However, she recognizes that Ivalice is changing - and that knowing one's place can be a very sad thing.
[Specialties/Abilities]
- Fran is a skilled mechanic and a passable pilot - though the latter especially is probably a negligible point here in Somarium.
- Though she prefers ranged weapons such as bows, Fran is something of a jack of all trades when it comes to wielding. Further, she has some low level learned magical abilities: minor curative spells, some elemental, but honestly her hand for manufactured magic is somewhat negligible.
- Fran does however have a high sensitivity to the Myst and, in general, the natural world: she has extremely sharp senses (hearing in particular thanks to those long ears). She also has three 'Quickenings', special attacks that use the Myst: Feral Strike, Whip Quick and Shatterheart.
[Affection] Though not averse to touch, often Fran seems to not really think about it - even the closest of friends tend to warrant minimal physical contact: light brushes, shoulder bumps, the occasional triumphant fistbump. She's very much a fan of Hume interaction - playful elbows to the gut and so forth -, but she sometimes simply forgets that sort of thing.
[Fighting] I'm fairly flexible when it comes to physical injuries (though please check before inflicting anything severe/life threatening). Though certainly not averse to physical altercations and by no means a wilting flower when it comes to combat, Fran will usually avoid a fight unless it's necessary.
[Other Permissions] I'm alright with pretty much whatever. Telepathy and all that is aokay, although keep in mind that viera minds are likely to work a bit different that human ones.
