Review on "The Hunger Games" Trilogy

Mar 23, 2011 20:13

I don´t do book reviews often. First, because I don´t have much time to read novels. Second, I don´t feel like I have to say much about most of the books I read. But I feel like writing a few lines about "The Hunger Games".

The 1st book was amazinkh! I read it on my business trip in reading sessions that lasted a few hours each and I was totally drawn into another world. I saw myself runnning through the woods and was thinking ´bout how I could kill the competition best. It´s really THAT haunting. *__* So, anyone who hasn´t read it, do it. You won´t regret it, it makes you think about the whole topic a lot. But don´t read any further ;-)

Haha no. No major plot spoilers. I enjoyed the second book, Catching Fire, more than I thought I would. The first half was a very good read with a VERY thrilling twist, afterwards it became boring. The 3rd book, Mockingjay, is just overall blah. I mean, yeah, of course it can´t keep up with a volume that exciting as #1, but the 3rd book did not hold ANY surprises. It gave me the: "ok, the author HAD to write an ending"-feeling but nothing more. And for "ok, we just need an ending" a whole book is too much. Of course people want to finish reading the saga but for me the first 1,5 books are joy, the rest is obligation only.  And the fact that after all that happened the characters were still not able to learn from their very own past is not making this any better in my eyes. Very dissapointing actually, but I see why the author chose them to act that way. Hypocritical acting at its best :/

Therefore: anyone who isn´t feeling the intense need to read further can finish after being done with book 1 for good.

A few more words on the character of Katniss: I´ve already written a post about her in the first installement and after having finished the trilogy I have to say she didn´t grow on me at all. There´s a line about her in the 3rd book that describes her just too well. She will chose who she thinks she can´t live without. And that´s right, she is a very calculating girl. And the way the author has written her is SO very annoying with the "You HAVE to identify with me cause I´m just the ordinary girl who became the big hero, the one who was chosen to save the world without even wanting to !!11!!"- attitude *gagging* And she´s taking herself WAY to serious. At the very start she behaves like the whole world would fall into pieces if it wasn´t for her. At first she behaves like Miss Important^10 and then she acts all bitchy like she didn´t ~want~ all the attention. o_O Really, I can´t even remember the last time I was "forced" to experience a story through a character´s point of view who was THAT unlikeable.

Whatever, I think my favorite character is Finnick. <33 And even though I dislike the main character THAT much I feel like starting all over again with book #1. Cause it was such a good read *__* And judging my "dissing Katniss"-lines this says a lot :D Thoughts on the saga? ^__^
