I don't know if this is entirely the appropriate reaction but I think when I start reading a fic of yours I just kind of wait for the fever and laugh when it comes. XDDD

But this was lovely; I like off-positive birthday fics, and was endeared by the idea of Alaric and Elena sharing the obituary section in the morning.

The obituaries section is the only part of the newspaper I generally read (current events, what?), and I really liked the sort of skewed idea of them sharing it in the morning, looking for the names of people they know, or speculating.

OH MY GOODDDDD WHAT IS THIS. Haha, this is the first Alaric/Elena thing I've read, and trust you to spoil me for any fic in the future. Of course, the Damon/Elena portion of my heart is CRUSHED that Damon didn't wish Elena a happy birthday, but whatever I'll get over it. This:

It’s her birthday and Elena’s older than she’s ever been. She supposes that’s true of any year, any day, any second, but after spending so much time with people that can’t or won’t die, she’s been feeling ancient and infant at once.

is STUNNING. As is this:

Also, I hadn't thought anything of Alaric/Elena until earnmysong mentioned it, and then once I got to thinking, it started to make more and more sense. I highly doubt it would ever happen in canon, but for now I like them both being broken but not trying to fix each others' brokenness, necessarily.
