Vidukon 2010/2011

Aug 30, 2009 22:36

The lovely halcyon_shift has given me permission to do some initial sounding out of interest in a second Vidukon, to take place between October 2010 and April 2011. It may sound like a long way off, but I'm sure it will fly round quickly ( Read more... )

so this time hopefully the extra notice will allow more people to plan for it
Just a heads up for your figurings: the first Vidukon actually had about 18 months notice - more than some dates in this one - so that may not actually impact attendance :) I will keep fingers crossed it does though!

( Also, there's early/late April 2012 in the poll - am guessing typo, or really advanced planning :D )

I don't know about the cost of other places but Cardiff and Manchester would be nicer places to stay. With Cardiff you could do the whole Torchwood touristy thing. MK is a bit of a urban sprawl of nothingness... but it is central and easy to get to.

MK has actually gotten quite a lot better than it used to be. It's still soulless, but there's a lot more to do ;)

I haven't been there for a few years but when a Brummie gets to look down on a place and call it an urban sprawl of nothingness you know you're in trouble. ;) I bow to your knowledge on its redevelopment.

Just adding: There are big airports in both Manchester and Birmingham.

Milton Keynes is actually pretty good because the National Express bus stops there on the bus to London from Oop North, so those of us who rely on public transport can get there for a reasonable price.

Tv/film type cons, so far as dates have been announced, which should be indicative of dates out to 2011:

London MCM Expo
24-25 October 2009
29-30 May 2010
30-31 October 2010

Memorabilia
Winter Memorabilia Show
21-22 November 2009
Spring Memorabilia Show
27-28 March 2010

Midlands MCM Expo
Next Show 20th February 2010

Various Collectormania cons are here: http://www.collectormania.com/ - they do big events in Milton Keynes once or twice a year.

charmax mentioned Cardiff and Dr Who - there's a Dr Who exhibition place in Cardiff (http://www.doctorwhoexhibition.com/cardiff.html) and there are signing events in Cardiff a few times a year, but I don't know when. I should, given that I live 30 minutes away, but then I only recently found out about the Bristol comic fairs.

My big concerns about going, you already know. Although if you're going to the con, I'll go - even if I end up sitting in a corner!

By the time this con comes around, I will be living in London as an Aussie expat, and it would be a bit awesome to attend something in a lively city with afterhours things to see and do. I don't know much about MK, but I get the feeling it might be a kinda small city (town?)... I would be willing to travel further afield (Birmingham, possibly Manchester, f.ex.) to attend the con in a place with a good fun vibe.

I hear what you're saying! As an OS visitor, I would never go to MK normally, so I'd be going there just for the con.
