2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, Round 3

Mar 25, 2013 01:41

Seirin High School had a transfer student by the name of Kuroko. The school then changed its name to Florida Gulf Coast University, and Kuroko changed his name to Brett Comer. San Diego State never had a chance.

So, first, the conference/other grouping breakdown:
B1G: 4-2 this round, 10-3 overall
ACC: 2-1 this round, 5-2 overall
SEC: 1-1 this round, 3-2 overall
Big XII: 1-1 this round, 3-5 overall
Big (L)East: 3-0 this round, 6-5 overall
PAC-12: 2-1 this round, 5-2 overall
Missouri Valley: 1-1 this round, 3-1 overall
Mountain West: 0-2 this round, 2-5 and done
Atlantic 10: 1-4 this round, 7-4 overall
WCC: 0-1 this round, 2-2 overall and done
The State of Florida: 3-0 this round, 6-0 overall
Florida Gulf Coast University (all-time): 2-0

...missed schools in the Big East and PAC-12 last time, and a couple of leagues I should know to follow. Anyway.

Sweet 16 makeup:
B1G: OSU, Indiana, ********, ******** State
ACC: Duke, Miami
SEC: Florida, and god help them they have to face an in-state school next round
Big XII: Kansas
PAC-12: Oregon, Arizona
Big East: Louisville, Syracuse, Marquette
Atlantic 10: LaSalle
Mountain West: Wichita State
Atlantic Sun: Seirin^H^H^H^H^H^HFlorida Gulf Coast University

As for the upset metric from rounds 2 and 3, uh...14/48=29.167%, and that's high. Leagues that brought too many do not include the Big East this time - those top three are *good* - but the Mountain West's RPI was clearly iron pyrite. The verdict isn't in on the Big XII just yet, but it's not all that great, either. I vote Mercer from the Atlantic Sun on principle, because they managed to play a critically underrated FGCU and only failed to win their tournament; Iowa also needs a look with the B1G just showing everybody up. Maybe Virginia from the ACC.

Tourney-wise, this round's games have been good, from the nailbiting that the B1G games and Ole Miss/LaSalle constituted to the airshow that is FGCU and no I can't say enough about them shut up I know I'm rambling they're that good damnit. Pool-wise, I'm second but I was *really* hoping for Creighton or SDSU. Bracket-wise, we've fallen below 50%, but I have all of my Final Four and five of my Elite 8 picks alive. This is not a bad position to be in.

Now for sleep so I can work (possibly from home) and prepare for a nasty exam tomorrow.

march madness
