Dipping my toes in Linux

Nov 04, 2005 02:56

I've finally managed to get a linux distro to boot on my computer and bring up more than a command prompt. I just got the most recent version of Ubuntu Linux as a live CD and it worked. Which is more than I can say for the PowerPC versions of Suse, Gentoo, Yellow Dog, Debian, Red Hat and Mandrake. Actually to be fair, I think I only tried Yellow Dog and Debian prior to this and I don't remember if the other ones have PowerPC versions or not. Either way, this is the first time I got a desktop in linux and could do stuff. Here's a screenshot of my blog in Firefox:

So now, the NeXTStep is to actually install the software onto a hard drive. I'm probably going to install it on my iPod...it would be awesome if Ubuntu showed up in my Startup Disk preference pane next to my other Mac OS installs. I'm not holding my breath though. I'll let you guys know how that goes.

nerdy, linux
