Rome and Other Nations
Rome's reach of Europe, Africa and portions of the Middle East loomed large. Several characters in Hetalia were in their past either invaded by Rome, fought with or had contact with him, even if this has not yet been shown in the canon materials. England, for example, first had Roman contact via one of Julius Caesar's expeditions in 55BC, and Rome had quite a big influence on British culture until the fall of the empire.
So if you pop up in one of Rome's threads or posts, most likely he will recognize you and call you by the name he gave you (England = Britannia, Switzerland = Helvetia, etc.), or the name he knew you by all those centuries ago. Likewise for descendents of dead nations. Germany he would recognize as a descendent of Germania; France and Switzerland as descendents of Gaul, etc.
