Prix de Diane, 2009.

We went to the races! It was my first time at a major hoserace, and as usual we staggered home at 3am the night before from another event. I pulled myself together and baked muffins and packed picnic baskets until after 4. It was well that I did, because we had just the time to dress the next morning before being whisked off by the gentle P., one of the very rare individuals I know who in France who actually has a car.

It was a thousand degrees in the sun, but that wasn't about to stop us. P. under a parasol.

M. sporting stripes!

Butterfly hat= yes! The other one has to go.

Linen from head to toe. I bet on All Ways To Rome. Stupid horse. Tsk.

My favorite picture. F. watching the winners come in.

F. bet on a horse that was apparently named after him, and won!

Trying out my opera glasses! F. was far to astounding to freak anyone out, and was adored by gaggles of giggling Spaniards. The French fire brigade actually tried to take him home with them.

Don't ask...

In short, a charming day! Champagne and muffins and cheering!
