For me, I beleive that this truly was the final fantasy. Square's production values have steadily declined since...well...they started making games, and it's about time I moved on to something better. While the guys over at Atlus and the people respsonsible for Disgaea continue to innovate and humor, the Squeenix crew is happy to regurgitate the same product over and over. I was playing FFXI when I suddenly realised that the only thing keeping me in this game was all the previous time spent playing it. When I stopped to think about it further, I realised that this same notion was the driving force between all their previous iterations. We all keep playing, hoping that this will be the finale.
While I haven't deleted my account yet, I'll probably retire the thing in the next month or so unless I come upon some great revelation. The truth is that the people within the game, the only drawing force in my opinion, just haven't been there lately. It's a damn shame that I've been paying 15 bucks a month for what is, to me, just a chatroom with swords in it. I want to go back in time and slap that first copy out of my hand, to set fire to any stock of Sony HDD I find. That we as gamers are being cheated is so obvious to me right now I could punch a chocobo in the throat.
