The upshot is that the attacks are thought to relate to Russian politics (LiveJournal's parent company being now Russian-owned), specifically Russian opposition bloggers. It's insteresting, as an American, to have part of my life disrupted by something to which I am geopolitically even more a distant onlooker than usual. If that makes any sense.
Closer to home (and markedly less disruptive), today I got a rejection from Analog, which will (probably not) teach me to attempt to do not-yet-rejectomancy with the average response times on Duotrope. Time to turn the story around and send it elsewhere for another try!
