co-working, except without the co, and books and things.

Last night I set out to attend MWW's alternate-Tuesdays co-working session, and then totally failed to actually meet up with anyone else from MWW (or any random strangers, or anyone at all) to actually co the work with. (I think I did spot someone I knew from MWW at one point, but he was in the company of two people I didn't recognize, and not seated somewhere where it would have been easy to join the table--plus, there are a really limited number of outlets available at the Alterra and I had managed to lay claim to one, so like hell was I going to relinquish it. Also, I subsequently spotted the guy I recognized sitting with the large knitting circle who meets at the Alterra on Tuesdays, so evidently he was not totally gung-ho about being there to write.)

However, it was far from a wasted evening, because, in reverse chronological order:

a) I wrote 1700 words on my story in about an hour and a half.

Wait, I didn't type that correctly. 1700 WORDS IN AN HOUR AND A HALF!!! That's better. Ahem. I am kind of excited about that part. Maybe this is the year that I actually finish this story! And let other people read it! That would be pretty awesome.

b) Alterra's ham and provolone on rye is quite a fine sandwich.

c) I had this Border's coupon for 33% off one item, see, and yesterday was release day for Blackout by Connie Willis

No, wait, I typed that wrong too. BLACKOUT! BY CONNIE WILLIS!!!

so obviously I had to swing by Borders before co-working to pick it up.

I also had to pick up a copy of Sharon Shinn's Mystic and Rider, because, for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture*, I recently came into possesion of books 2-4 of that series. And obviously I needed the first book as well.

Well, and then as it happened they had Fortune and Fate, book 5 of the series, right there in paperback. So obviously I had to pick that up, too.

Right, I thought to myself. Time to get out of the store before I buy anything else. But Borders had cunningly placed the romance section between the SF/F section and the registers, and I thought, Oooh, have they got any Loretta Chase**? And there was Your Scandalous Ways. So I got that too. And then I fled.

So all in all, a good night! And now I am still procrastinating about the thing that I mentioned procrastinating about in my last post.

* Yesterday I was in a meeting of a committee which I got added to because it is an outgrowth of a committee my boss is on. My boss is not on the new committee, and I remarked that the two of us are interchangeable. I managed not to say like snowmobile parts.

** After rereading one Loretta Chase novella three or four times over several years I have finally managed to get into the habit of checking when I am in bookstores to see if they have any of her books. Better late than never?

mww, a story that is based on a fairy tale, books i have read, writing
