Software rec?

Hi, I'm relatively new to vidding (made my first fanvid in April this year, and I've only used iMovie '11 so far), and I'm interested in stepping up my game by a teeny tiny amount. I'm hoping y'all can make me a recommendation for my next software to try which fits what I'm looking for, described below.

I haven't used iMovie, but fwiw, I did a quick google search for "iMovie 11 zoom" and found this. (There are text-based instructions available too, if you search.) And here's some stuff about fonts.

Hope that helps. :-)

I use both a Mac and a PC, and to be honest I keep the PC purely so I can continue to vid on Sony Vegas, because finding cheap full-featured video editors for Mac a few years back wasn't that easy - you either got something that was pretty restricted in terms of tools, or you had to pay through the nose for the pro version. Vegas had lots of features that were missing in the cheaper options, but wasn't expensive. However, there is more available now.

Adobe Premiere Elements, which has plenty of bells and whistles for a hobbyist price. You can download a trial, and it's on sale at 30% off (currently $70US) until Jan 11.

Kdenlive is free, but not sure how well supported it still is.

Blender is also free, and very powerful, but from what I can tell is quite a steep learning curve.

Here is a full list of what's available, if you need more options.
