Bracketed items [] were left out of the commentary by me, but are kind of needed to make sense. I tend to ramble. Onward to the transcription:
Hi I am sisabet and this is the commentary for my vid, "Peacekeeper." The original idea was I wanted to do a video basically where the blurb would be "Oh, Willow and Xander, what have you done?" I didn't have a song I just had this idea. I was intrigued by the idea that the first evil in season 7 was unleashed due to Buffy's resurrection in the sixth season. I wanted to play around with the idea that Willow and Xander are somehow culpible for this. They've unleashed this, they brought Buffy back and now this is what's going to happen.
And it tied back into "Restless" there were warnings in "Restless" and I wanted to use footage from there to identify this was Deep Shit Territory and that I am a thinky type vidder like person.
Anya and Tara would ultimately be sacrificed as a result of their choice. You can see that here. I didn't actually know Anya was going to die when I had this vague idea. I think the working interpretation was Xander's eye.
Once I connected the lyric in this song "there's no going back on the plans we've made" with this original idea it kind of became something else.
So the finale aired and ten days later this vid was completed and posted. This went from "Oh,WIllow and Xander what have you done?" to a love letter to this person: Buffy Summers.
Buffy is awesome, she is great and I love her dearly. I wanted to make this vid all about my love for her, for what she had to do, for what she went through and also about how deeply she loved the people in her life.
I felt like the central conceit of "Restless" was summed up in her line: "I walk. I talk. I shop. I sneeze. I'm gonna be a fireman when the floods roll back. There's trees in the desert since you moved out, and I don't sleep on a bed of bones. "
Buffy is essentially different and her difference started upsetting the natural slayer order of things long before her resurrection brought on the first evil. In the episode "Restless," Buffy upset the power of the first slayer because she wasn't alone. She shared her power.
This is a vid about love. "Don't be afraid to fight. Love is the sweet surprise." And here is the WIllow part.
I made this effort to make every shot meaningful, but not just use faces. I was ridiculously proud of how the flames lined up here. Also Spike in flames. Just sayin'... not that anything is gonna happen later with this. Nope.
Anyhoo, Spike is introduced in this vid and Anya makes a reappearance as Anyanka as the lyric "Only creatures who are on their way, only poison their own well" plays.
I admit that I had some Giles Isues "we still have time to hate" Not so much my Giles issues as Watcher Issues and that is going to come into play in a minute when we see the First Watchers. Where is isn't so much about keeping the girl safe so much as using her.
And we see her with Dawn and then there is the Xander moment [his "love is a sweet surprise" lyric.] The Xander part killed me because I could not find a two-shot of them together after he lost his eye. Before, yes, but after he lost his eye it was important to me to show that they were still in this together, and the closest I could get was this kitchen scene which was perfect, perfect scene, but no two-shot. Which still wounds my vidder-heart because it does not completely match the Willow two-shot [from her verse].
First slayer stuff coming back on, revisiting the fact that she isn't going to accept the order of things, the way things have been. "Take all the time that you will" is the lyric with Spike and I think it fits, there. I think at the end, their relationship was getting to the point where it was something she could allow herself.
And then we have to get into the part where she is gonna fight and the lyric is "only kill" and it's repeated several times. It's not a terrible thing for her.
There's Willow, with the ability to send her to the place she went in "Restless." T
here's a little bit of Keanu, there's your Keanu "Paint our face"
My sister told me to cut this scene as it was too long but I loved it. And here is where we get to the point, yeah. It is all about sharing the power,
it is all about realizing these things.
And "Love is a Sweet surprise" there. And then the walk down the hallway, which chokes me up.
This upsets me because it is sooo dark and I tried to lighten it and never could get it bright.
That little girl is for Eunice.
Buffy doesn't need this [she breaks the chains of the first slayer, in the vid essentially freeing the power along with sharing it].
Finally, that open road is her future, the sweet surprise of something that maybe she can finally give herself. Maybe she has a future now.
And I end this vid like every Buffy vid that year ended and I'm okay with that.
