Darn, it's snowing again. At least it's pretty. We're supposed to get about 6 inches of snow, which doesn't sound like much but is in fact quite a bit. I wouldn't mind so much except I have to run a bunch of errands in Harvard Square before dinner and the show tonight. I'm going to see the Hasty Pudding show tonight (The Tent Commandments) with some people from the library, and before that we're meeting for dinner at John Harvard's pub, which is the local brewhouse (though it's now a chain, this is the original). I have been looking forward to the show for months so I'm really excited. I'm going over earlier to buy my sister a present for doing my taxes and to get some studying done. I have a paper for my text criticism class due on monday. It's on the Washingtonianus Codex (which I picked because I liked the name). The professor didn't give us much direction on what we're supposed to write about our chosen manuscript - he's big on throwing us in over our heads to sink or swim, the immersion method as he calls it. But it's only a short paper (around 5 pages, though he doesn't have page limits either way, which is nice), so I'm sure I can figure out something to bs about for a few pages. The other midterm I have is on tuesday and is my Coptic midterm. I don't feel too stressed about studying for it. We have paradigms as always, which I learned last semester and which I've been tested on before, so I'm used to it. My main problem with the paradigms is the language- I know the forms and how to decline them all, that's not what I'm worried about, but I always have trouble matching the name of the paradigm to the forms. The terminology the textbook uses is very strange and doesn't make logical sense to me, so I always panic about knowing which form she's asking for on the test. So far I've generally lucked out, so here's hoping. The test also has a section of passages we've translated before, either Mark or the Gospel of Thomas, which we have to retranslate and parse. The last part is a sight passage of the Gospel of Thomas, and for the first time she's going to let us use our little dictionaries on that section, so that's a relief. All in all not too much to get worked up about, but it is going to be a busy weekend. And next thursday I'm flying to DC to meet my parents for a weekend there and the following week in Williamsburg, VA. I get back on April 1, and Gemma flies in on April 5 from England to visit until the 15th.
