not to me. And what meaning those traditions have without G-d? Igor, why did you break a glass at your wedding? Light the candles on Hanuka? Did brit for your sons?
Glass in the wedding - tradition, as a memory of ruined Temple Light candles - tradition, that came from what Jews believed to be a miracle Brit - tradition, hygienic
Where is the God here? Presence of God in these books is not a mandatory, not nice-to-have condition.
BTW, why you are against rabbinic woman? Considering current religious institutions, woman-with-a-kipa cannot worsen the situation.
Beit Mikdash only matters because it a your link to G-d; Hanuka, as well as the existence of the state of Israel, is a miracle where meatim nizhu rabim; and brit is only done because G-d told Avraham to do it.
About women in judaism - as you may have noticed, I wear pants and do not cover my hair. But at no point in time I claimed that to be jewdaism. Rav usially works in a pair with his wife, who is a rabanit; they deal with different aspects of live as a team. What really rubbed me wrong is the book about mixed marriage. That is just plain wrong.
Имели, имели такую беседу, раз 20, начиная с обеда в ДТТ :) I never considered myself as a feminist, but cannot find a reason to prevent woman from lifsok halachot (if she is well educated and has IQ above a chair). Really, you never dreamed to lead congregation? Regarding mixed marriage, take this story:
I also can not find a reason to prevent a woman from lifsok halachot, provided she has proper training. The point is that this is not done today, and therefore all literature about it and discussion for and against do not belong in a childrens book, but rather should be done by adults. PJ library is trying to tell kids that a female rabbi is an accepted practice, while this is simply a lie.
No, I have no desire to lead a congregation. Zachem ono mne nado? Who am I to tell other people what to do and how to live their life?
For a while I used to put together a shabat page with perushim for a minian, organized a few kid parashat shavua sessions, put together a few posters about Mearat haMachpela and Beit Mikdash, when a haredi rav I know prepares his shiur he sometimes asks me to help out. Mne bol'she ne nado.
oh, man, where is that graphic about who stays jewish based on the ultra orthodox; modern orthodox, conservatives and reform?! It was in the pew report published in yediot ahronot. It was red color and very informative. It showed very clearly that conservative and reform population just do not stay jewish.
So, there is no reason to worry - secular and reform jews will disappear very soon! (Though, for some unexplained reason they are still exist for last 100 years ;)
Samaritans broke off the jewish mainstream over high priesthood - the guy did not get to be high priest in Beit Mikdash, so he build another mikdash on har Grizim. I thought you knew that.
Off:
I catered years ago a reform bat mizva where the girl read from the Tora in Kfar Saba.
The modern orthodox shul next door to me offers a chala baking and dancing party for bat mizva girls;
but my friend did not want that and she got her daughter to deliver a drasha from the bama on shabbat(that is in the middle of the man section, for your reference);
another friend of mine is getting organized to get her daughter to read megilat Ester for an all women audience for her bat mizva (long time standard practice in Efrat).
As for me, I took my sister on a trip to London.
Girls have nothing mandatory on their bat mizva, so you can get as creative as you wish.
Of course, I know. But since we are talking about 3000 ago, they preserved rituals better (avoiding countless pirushim and amendments)
I know how looks reform (or conservative) bat mizva (BTW, in synagogue on Lexington Av they perform really nice ceremony), I wondered how it looks in orthodox synagogue. Thanks for clarification.

it is a tradition only because it is first a religious observance, didn't we already have a simular conversation here?

Regarding mixed marriage, take this story:

And 100 years compared to over 3000 years of jewish history is not that much.

Off: Does jewish girl celebrate bat-mizva in synagogue (I cannot recall and didn't find reference)? If yes, in what way?
