DIM SUM?

Jan 25, 2007 12:01

Sunday Ben and I went to Olvera street and China Town with my parents, we returned home victorious with a papermache alligator head whose jaws open so you can store things inside, a huge pack of chop black chop sticks, Chinese rice candies, and a pair of $3.75 chinese mary janes. He wanted to buy my a bronze Buddha but we hadn't taken very much cash so we decided to pass on it for the moment. We also passed on the opportunity to have Dim Sum, which is kind of sad but we didn't know which places were good and which weren't so instead we had taquitos at the famous taquito place on Olvera St. and the beans were good. I like beans, I'm Mexican and I know which beans and good and which ones are crappy.
I'm enjoying school, its boring and kind of inspiring. Reading smutty books in an academic environment is somehow satisfying like finally people are going to pretend to be adults...whatever that means. The campus is growing on me a little more in all truth I feel annoyed at the hilliness of it. At the bookstore my dad goes kind of nuts and I have more UCI garb and anyone needs but I'm making good use of it, and will probably end up with more. I got him to get me a pair of anteater print min-shorts and UCI yoga pants and a new UCI sweatshirt (because I honestly wore the other one to death). I wish I knew more people there, its such a peaceful place to spend time, there is a giant park in the center where I assume collegiate things are done like reading under trees and playing frisbee. I feel more inspired to write than I have in a long time, its comforting to feel like I have something to create again, though not by any means the essay that I should be writing right now.
Last week I received my package from Chuck Palahniuk. Every couple of years he accepts letter from his adoring public for one month and promises to write back to every single person he hears from. I wrote to him in October and had kind of forgotten about it. I had heard in the past he sometimes send back a dvd or some small token with a letter. He sent me a box full of stuff. I'm not altogether sure how he fit it all in the box, but the man can organize, thats for sure. I'm not going to go into each thing he sent me because, well because it a ton of stuff. Among the trinkets was a little beanie plush cat which the letter informed me was my Power Cat, I've named it Charles in his honor. If you want to know what I got IM me or come visit me and I'll show you. And thats that.
