Damn this transit strike. I really can't fathom shutting down the entire city's subway system for even a day - I depend on it a lot, and I have other options. I can't imagine the people who have to commute from - well, Brooklyn or the Bronx, I guess, because cabs are too expensive and NJ transit wouldn't be going there.
I guess I'm kind of lucky, because it won't affect me too badly considering, but it sure does make things inconvenient. I have a paper to turn in at noon that I can just take to the bus to campus for (if I can even get on a bus), and then I wanted to hang out in Union Square a little bit to work on my Sociology study guide... but since I can't take the subway back, I might have to alter that plan a little bit. Anyway, other than that I wasn't planning on leaving my dorm until Thursday morning to take my Soc exam. I'm hideously underprepared for it, which sort of sucks, because I could potentially be throwing away a 4.0 by slacking in this class.
All of my other exams are done, though! When I turn in this paper, I can consider myself 12 credits richer (or possibly 3 A's richer). If I got paid for my A's, I'd be a rich girl.
I think my roommate is leaving for New Jersey today. I really hope so, because she's been a very distracting presence. She had her two exams yesterday, and now she just has two throwaway ones that she doesn't plan on studying for. That's fine and everything, as long as she doesn't spend all night talking about her shit and her sex life (not in the same sentence, thankfully) to her friends on the phone again like yesterday. Honestly, I have never meant anyone who is as easy-going about talking about her feces. It doesn't really bother me, it just annoys me when I'm trying to read about power structures and other things that are a little hard to concentrate on.
Yesterday I went to the best tea place in Manhattan. If anyone every comes to visit me (hint), I will take you there. I had one in the place, and it was so good that I took another with me when I went to see Brokeback Mountain. Seeing movies by myself can be so relaxing, especially since I was so excited to see this one. After sitting at home and thinking about it for a little while (a few hours) I have decided that it lived up to all of my expectations, though it was REALLY slow-moving at some parts. The scenery was beautiful though! I felt like I could smell the mountain. Also, there was tumbleweed! It was nice to see this movie after we'd discussed the myth of the Old Western a lot in my film class... also, it may have been the only movie I've ever liked Heath Ledger in, though I'm not sure if I'd go that far.
There are still so many movies I want to see. Top of the list is Narnia, I really can't believe I haven't seen that one yet. But I think I will when I go home... $10.75 is too much for me to dish out and feel okay about it.
I'm going home Thursday!
That's about it.
