The video stream opens up on Victor, a slightly younger Victor with longer hair, so long that she could probably reach back and braid it, if she wanted to.

"If you're seeing this video, I died. A week ago. I have a system... if my biological functions go offline, a week later this video goes online. That's to prevent a mistake, if the system ( Read more... )

Here, Victor, have a slightly panicky kidlet.

"Hey, hey, hi, oh, everything's okay now." She swallows hard, ready for a full-on reassurance-fest. That's what happens when her fail-safes have a reason to activate.

"...what happened?" This. This is not a fun time.

She fiddles with a few dials, makes sure she's on a secure channel, leans in. She's talking extra calmly, to put his mind at ease. "I was on patrol, and I ran into a pretty bad fellow. He's in custody now. I have a healer buddy, but he was gone at the time. I promise, everything's okay, everyone's safe."

"Are you hurt? Can I come see you? Is it safe?" Protective kidlet is...pretty darn protective.

"I'm all better now, it's one-hundred percent safe, and I can come to you. Where're you at?"

"Okay, if you're positive...um, the apartment in the Nexus."

"I'll be in the living room in less than two minutes!" She leans in to find the button to turn off the camera. No, that's volume. No, that's contrast. There. Off.

She tosses on a hat and PINs over. She doesn't look well but she looks happy. Confident, even if she's a little shivery. She plops herself over on the couch. "Heya."

He's already sitting on the couch, and will ootch over towards her when she appears, giving her an exceptionally worried look. "What happened?"

She claps him carefully (that is to say, extra super gently) on the shoulder. "Don't worry, I promise all is well. I got attacked on patrol, and... that person's behind bars right now, so he isn't anyone to worry about. It was a really abnormal situation. I...." She's trying very hard to find wording that won't scare him. Heck, she has to find wording that won't scare herself.

For perhaps the first time in her knowledge of him, he will not react to the touch, brow furrowing a little. "I knew that. But what HAPPENED?"

She withdraws her hand, and her face goes all flushy. "He went into my head, and turned off some of my organs. I didn't know... I thought he had superstrength, because he threw me around pretty good. Things happened. Then things got fixed."

"...I wasn't aware people were capable or doing things like that."

"Yeah." A nervous little nod. This still isn't something she's comfortable being entirely open about, so it's hard for her to explain it. "Uh. I don't think a lot of people can do that, and this person is safely behind bars."

He'll absorb this for a moment, then inch a little closer, not QUITE touching her, but. Still. "Are there any more out there?"

"Statistically, probably. But the question is whether they're actually threats. I think most folks with dangerous superpowers just end up working as gas station attendants, or executives, or performance artists. You're safe in the Nexus. You'll be safe, especially in nonmetahuman worlds. This guy... he was trying to prove a point, and the backlash from it was immense."
