First, the good stuff!
I had my 40th Birthday on Monday, and had low brow and high brow celebrations. Low brow was Stripparaoke at Devil's Point on Sunday night. New friend and word scramble competitor, Thomas was let off the leash for the night so he could come out and experience the glory that is singing karaoke while a stripper does her thing right next to you!
Inyou joined us too late to sing, so he came back with me and Brian to play some Rock Band. We ended up having martinis with the Blind Tiger martini edition (thank you James Park!) and playing horrible drunken (FUN) Rock Band until almost 5 am. Octavian then went home, cleaned up, and then went to work because he is still young and way more resilient than I! Brian and I went to bed, but I woke up about 5 hours later. Beef broth followed by veggie omelet with bacon is a great hangover breakfast, btw.
My mom sent me a "scavenger hunt" in a box for my birthday, which is so cute! There were five 1 dollar bills fan folded and stuffed in a Pat O's Hurricane glass, a 5 dollar bill "hidden" in the label of a pair of nice socks, a 10 dollar bill taped to the back of a magnetic note pad, and a 20 dollar bill inside a little travel bag that could be used for jewelry or makeup. (also a card, a package of milanos and gift card) I just thought that was very clever and fun for me to open all of those little things!
Brian got me a membership to the Pittock Mansion! I have never been, so I am excited to go for the first time as a member! There are also cool perks, like art receptions and holiday events that I get to go to. It's a couple's membership so we get to do all of it together.
For dinner on Monday, Brian arranged a swanky dinner at Departure Lounge on top of the Nines Hotel downtown. I had never been there either, but he had stopped in after the Holiday Ale Fest and thought it was a nice place to have a birthday dinner. He wasn't wrong. Amazing view, wonderful food, tasty cocktails, and 13 of our friends in cocktail attire! The menu is small plate asian fusion, which means I got a scallop dish that was perfectly cooked on a bed of pineapple and parsnip puree, Brian got a steak that was cooked on a hot rock (they told us it was 500 degrees and the steak was raw when it left the kitchen), Felicia and Brad both got the Bibimbap in a hot bowl of sizzling rice and pepper sauce, there was crab fried rice, seared pork belly, Brad got me a soju flight, I had several cocktails with a thai chili infused vodka. I was too full for dessert, but they looked amazing too! What more could I want? (and I didn't have to vacuum or clean the bathroom!)
Despite the worries and stress of having the festival coming up in just over 2 weeks, I had a fantastic time. I was feeling a bit old and haggy the other day. I feel better now. I realize that there are things I haven't accomplished, but there is still time for the important ones.
