• personality • Noin isn't like most women. She prefers to be called by her last name, a habit from her time spent in the Alliance and OZ as well as her own personal belief that there are no genders on the battlefield, only soldiers. Despite being a soldier for OZ, Noin has never really liked taking the lives of other people. In a fight, she'll give her opponent a chance to surrender and give up instead of just taking their life. To her, all life is precious and shouldn't be wasted. She is very easy to get along with. She also tends to act like an older sister to people younger than she is.
If she has to take the lead in a stressful situation, her personality changes a bit and she won’t take any sort of crap from anyone and won’t hesitate to let them know that. She expects people to do the best they can to help out. She won’t ask someone to do something that she knows they cannot do or something that she won’t do herself.
She will do whatever she can to protect the people that she cares for, even if it means putting her own life on the line. She acts a lot like an older sister to a lot of people, doing what she can for them. She's an excellent listener and will keep any secret told to her. She’s also very easy to get along with and won’t hesitate to help someone out, even if she doesn’t really know them that well.
Noin is also very smart and good with computers, though her main skills are with piloting mobile suits and teaching others to do the same.
• canon history • Not much is known about Noin before she joined the Lake Victoria Military Academy. It isn't really known as to how she became friends with Zechs. As the years went on, Noin and Zechs became the top two students at the academy. Noin graduated second in the class, allowing Zechs to take the top spot in the class.
After graduation, Noin stayed at Lake Victoria so that she could teach other soldiers how to pilot mobile suits in space. However, one night, disaster strikes. Bombs had been set in the pilot dormitories and then in the middle of the night, were set off, killing all the pilots. Furious, Noin went after the one who had set the bombs. It turned out to be none other than Chang Wufei, the pilot of the Shenlong Gundam. She was unable to kill him because of his age, and Wufei refused to kill her as well. Once she returns from the fight, Zechs allows her to join him in his fight against the Gundams.
Several weeks later, Noin travels with Zechs back to the Sanc Kingdom with the Tallgeese mobile suit. Together along with a fleet of OZ Mobile suits they attack the Alliance base. But the Tallgeese proves to be a difficult suit to handle, giving Zechs a heart attack while piloting it. Concerned, Noin stays with him while he recovers.
After the battle in the Sanc Kingdom, Noin is forced to join Lady Une at a command center while Zechs is told to fight Heero in the Tallgeese. During the battle, Une stops the fighting by announcing that she will destroy a colony unless the Gundam pilots surrender. Dr. J, the creator of the Wing Gundam, says that he will give up, but he won’t let OZ have Wing. Heero detonates the Wing Gundam and Zechs doesn’t attack while Trowa takes Heero’s crippled body away from the battlefield.
After the battle, Zechs decides to rebuild the Wing Gundam and Relena goes to find Lady Une in Moscow. Against her teachings, Relena tries to kill Lady Une, who is saved by Noin because of the orders she had from Treize and her own alliance with Zechs.
Not long after that, Noin leaves OZ, becoming the captain of the former Sanc Kingdom Imperial Guard and takes Relena to a big gala event where Treize tells of his plans to eliminate the Gundams and Relena takes the stage in order to defy him. Noin takes Relena off the stage and apologizes for her behavior.
Noin then searches for Heero and Trowa and after finding them, she invites them to Antarctica with her so that Heero could finish his battle with Zechs. However, they’re being tracked by Romefeller, the foundation behind OZ, and they attack Noin, demanding that she tell them where Zechs is. Trowa goes out and saves her, killing all the attackers without a second thought. After this battle, she thinks long and hard about the effects of war on underage fighters.
After arriving in Antarctica, Heero decides to use Trowa’s Heavyarms Gundam instead of the rebuilt Wing Gundam that Zechs had for him. During the battle, Relena shows up with a letter for Heero and after finding out that he is still injured, tells him that he should kill Zechs. Noin stops Relena, telling her that she shouldn’t want the death of her own brother. The fight only ends when troops show up. Noin saves Relena as Heero and Trowa escape, leaving Zechs to fight the troops alone.
When Relena rebuilds the Sanc Kingdom, Noin goes along, protecting her. She finds out however, that she has more duties than just keeping the Sanc Kingdom safe, like searching for hidden Gundams. Noin helps Sally Po, a former OZ officer escape after being arrested in exchange for the Wing Gundam. The two become friends. Noin somehow meets up with Quatre and Heero and asks them to come with her to the Sanc Kingdom.
However, Romefeller had been pushing wounded Treize Faction soldiers; soldiers that had left OZ after Treize stepped down as leader, into the Sanc Kingdom so that they would have an excuse to attack. OZ invades and Heero takes the Wing Gundam out while Noin and Quatre use two white Taurus suits to fight.
When Relena is called out by Romefeller and she goes, protected by Noin and Quatre. Romefeller informs Relena that her country is founded on lies and that her own brother is out killing OZ soldiers. Relena tells them that the masked pilot, Zechs Marquis couldn’t be her brother. Afterwards, her car is attacked and she is saved by Noin and Quatre.
Sometime later, Romefeller attacks the Sanc Kingdom and Noin, Quatre and the Maguanacs, a group of mobile suit pilots that follow Quatre, go out to defend the kingdom. But instead of watching her friends die in defense of her country, Relena dissolves the Sanc Kingdom and allows herself to be captured. Quatre and Noin escape to space before they are captured or killed by enemy mobile suits.
Eventually, Noin sends a message to Wufei, asking him to join her and Quatre. Wufei declines and continues to do things his own way. Later on, Relena is crowned Queen of the World by Romefeller in order to promote false ideas of peace. Noin, Quatre and Trowa are then attacked by OZ Soldiers and are saved by Duo. During this, Zechs had been approached by Quinze of White Fang who had asked him to be their leader. He accepts.
Howard, a member of the crew of the ship Peacemillion, contacts Duo, Quatre, Trowa, and Noin and asks them to join him onboard. They accept. Zechs boards the battleship Libra and destroys the shuttle of Duke Dermail’s shuttle. He then broadcasts his intentions to everyone. He plans on destroying the world in order to save the colonies from oppression.
Libra attacks Barge, OZ’s last space outpost and Noin takes Quatre, Trowa, and Duo with her in order to find out what Zechs is really going to do. Treize removes Relena from her position as Queen of the World, stating that siblings shouldn’t be pitted against each other in all out war. Sally Po finds Heero and gives him Trowa’s old Heavyarms suit and they head out into space. Zechs takes Epyon out to fight the Gundam Pilots. When Barge tries to fire, Zechs destroys it.
A few survivors from Barge make it back to Earth, among them Lady Une who had been in a coma since she had been shot. Wufei runs into Sally and Heero, and after an encounter with the ZERO system, Wufei joins Heero and Sally out in space onboard the Peacemillion.
Sally, Wufei, and Heero eventually meet up with the others onboard Libra. OZ soldiers, desperate for a victory, hold the colony with the circus that Trowa works at hostage, demanding Libra in exchange for the colony. Trowa takes Wing ZERO out in order to protect Catherine, a girl who works in the circus along with him, but Quatre manages to talk him out of it. Trowa then regains the memory that he lost after almost being killed. Zechs then fires Libra at Earth.
While the Gundam pilots lead by Quatre, who had mastered the ZERO system, Noin went in search of Zechs on board Libra. While Libra readies to fire on Earth again, Sally orders Peacemillion to ram the beam cannon, making it useless. After encountering Zechs, Noin can’t bring herself to kill him. The same thing applies to Zechs; he can’t bring himself to kill her either. She eventually goes with him to the top of Libra, where they wait for Heero in order to finish a fight that never got finished.
While the other pilots continue to battle, Noin watches Heero and Zechs fight. Zechs had planned on destroying more of the Earth by crashing Libra into it and Wufei fights Treize once more, this time defeating him and then Lady Une announces the Earth’s surrender as Treize dies.
During the battle between Heero and Zechs, the other Gundam pilots try and destroy as much as Libra as they can in order to prevent it from falling on Earth. One final piece remains however, and it’s the piece that has Zechs and Heero fighting inside of it. Zechs manages to escape through a wall of flames and Heero gets out and destroys the final piece of Libra, saving the Earth.
After things calm down, Noin visits Treize’s grave along with Dorothy, Treize’s niece. There she says that she’s sure that Zechs is still alive. Eventually she joins an organization, lead by Lady Une, called the Preventers. Their goal is to prevent terrorist attacks that will threaten the peace that had finally been achieved.
• verde history • Noin grew up in Verde as the daughter of one of the town guards and the waitress at the local café. She grew up playing around with other children her age, but preferred to play games with the young boys rather than the young girls.
She preferred to learn how to fight and survive in the woods rather than learning how to cook and sew like the other girls. She did learn how to cook, since her mother didn’t want her to be able to survive on her own when she was old enough to move out on her own.
When she was a teenager, her father was killed by one of the monsters while guarding the village. When she was old enough, she was going to become one of the guards, protecting the people like her father had done, but before she could, her mother made her promise not to. She didn’t want to lose her daughter like she had her husband.
Instead, she continued her schooling, eventually earning a degree in World History. After getting her degree, she became a teacher at the University, teaching several different history courses.
• Sexual orientation • Noin is straight, preferring to be with men over women. She doesn’t think about women the same way that she does men. In the series, she has feelings for her long time friend, Zechs Marquis and would do anything for him. She thinks of women more like friends and not lovers. She is in love with Zechs, but in Verde she won’t know him, so she won’t be thinking about how she might be betraying him by being with other people.
