It's times like this I miss living with my Mom

I'm having a bit of a clothing crisis at the moment and I'm not sure if the solution is altering something I have or raiding someones closet. Chances are no one has stuff that will fit me but I'm not sure that my stuff is dressy enough. I don't need to go to the extreme of formal but I do need late afternoon dressy. I have a few cute sundresses that might work if I finally alter them to fit in the shoulders. I have a cute satin dress but it is about intermission length and black & floral. I guess I could hem it to cocktail length, that would help. Otherwise I'm looking at a wrap dress that is black and white. Is black ok at southern weddings? Most of the weddings I've been to had at least some Jewish influence so black is a perfectly acceptable color. Heck, my bridesmaids wore black as did my mother, although none wore a tiny black sequined dresses like the mother of the bride at one of my brothers weddings.

So what say you all my non-Jewish southern friends? Is black an acceptable color for weddings? How about the bride in question? What does she think (hint, hint)?
