Opinions on this are really appreciated...

  • The following footage is entitled 'The Patterson-Gimlin footage.' It's quite a famous piece of film.
  • The footage allegedly shows a female bigfoot walking away from the camera in Bluff Creek, California. It was shot on October 20, 1967 by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin.
  • The two men were out in the area, searching for and collecting evidence of bigfoot footprints for a documentary on bigfoot that they were working on. They were on horseback and at one point their horses were very startled by an unknown creature (the film subject) and Patterson's horse threw him off. Patterson fought to reach for his camera, got a hold of it and shot this footage of the creature.
  • Patterson, who died of cancer in 1972, swore on his death bed that the footage was authentic and he had encountered and filmed a large bipedal animal unknown to science. Patterson's friend and business associate, Gimlin, has always denied being involved in any part of a possible hoax with Patterson and claims that he and his partner had encountered a real Bigfoot.
  • Someone named Bob Heironimus claims to have been the figure depicted in the Patterson film and that Patterson offered him 1000 dollars to wear an apesuit for the film. Bob Heironimus re-enacted his role in the film, wearing a 'similar' apesuit. The suit and the re-enactment itself looked nothing like the Patterson footage, and Heironimus' claims and re-enactments were considered to be unsuccessful.
  • Some scientists have said that they belived that the subject of the film is a man in an apesuit. Other scientists have claimed that the creature is not human, and that it is some form of unknown creature. Scientists who clam that it is an unknown animal argue that the subject's muscle structure, arm length, gait (stride and walk), muscle movement, face structure and other features reveal that it is infact a real being and not a human in an apesuit.
  • The 'apesuit' hasn't been found since and it is nowhere to be found still.
  • Several people have attempted to re-enact the footage, and remake a similar 'apesuit.' They have been highly unsuccessful... Even with todays technology. It is worth considering that the high tech sixties 'apesuit' in the film was made in the sixties, with little technology available back then. The 'Planet of the Apes' suits back then are an example of the limitations of that era's techonology.
  • The film subject has been zoomed in on in since, to allow it to be analysed. However, the original footage shows the figure moving away from quite a distance. It's hard to make out what the subject is at all in the unaltered footage. Why would the two men, conciously carry out such a hoax when the subject is hardly even identifiable (and could be a man dressed in a suit.) Furthrmore, why would they pay such close attention to detail such as muscle movement, gait and arm length, and then shoot it from such a distance!
