My students: The casting directors from hell

So today the kids had a mini-project to go along with the novels they're reading. They had to pretend they were making the movie of their novel, and then pick four characters to find pictures of and cast actors in those roles. That's okay... I'm slow enough today that it took me a full minute to figure out what That Other British Singer had to do with David Caruso's David-Caruso-ing. (As I read along, in my mind I was hearing the opening strains of That Band's classic, "Give-Me-Your-Tired-Your-Poor Song.")

Now I'm envisioning some of today's youth taking the phrase "we'll drive our ships to new lands" to mean they should write some horrid fanfic (but I repeat myself) about Harry and Hermione on a cruise to America.

I clearly need to get some more sleep. And my head examined.

"Harry?" Hermione said, flicking her luxurious curls behind her. "Could you please pass me that pitcher of daquiris?"

As any obedient cruise-ship cabana boy should, Harry passed the daquiris along. "Good thing we beat Voldemort, huh?"

"Indeed!" Hermione agreed as she poured herself another glass of icy alcoholic deliciousness. "Otherwise we might never get to cruise across the ocean to be on American Idol!"

...obviously I also need my head examined.
