Greetings all,
I've recently gone on an unexplained binge to read all the Sherlock Holmes stories, reread Bram Stoker's Dracula for the first time since 1984, and try once again to read Frankenstein and to reread the Brontes.
I'd like to add one of C. Dickens' masterpieces to my list of gothic Victoriana reading. However, I have somehow managed to survive not only 12 years of American public education but 3 or so years of college without having to read any of his books for a class. Ever.
(on the other hand, I have been assigned Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" in 8 separate classes -- a play I first read when I was, oh, 13 or so.)
So here I am, almost 43, and the only Dickens I have ever read is "A Christmas Carol" every December for the last 20 years or so.
Recommendations, anyone?
