Beth was in a car accident...
So Mom called me around 4:30 today to tell me that Beth had just been in a car accident. My heart rarely ever freezes up, but it did with that phone call.
"Lauren, now I need you to listen carefully to me. Beth was in a car accident and..."
She didn't tell me right away whether Beth was oh kay or not, so I had to interrupt her to check. Thank goodness, Beth was fine-- just very shaken up and upset over the whole thing. Mom asked me if Shawn and I could rush to Beth's apartment (where the accident took place) to take photos of the whole scene. Of course, Shawn and I were out the door within two minutes, camera in hand.
By the time Shawn and I got there, Zack was already with Beth and the woman who was involved in the accident. Beth was already snapping photos of the scene, and she told us what happened.
Beth had been pulling out of her apartment's underground parking garage (on her way to work). The space that sits between the garage and the street dips way down and then quickly upwards. Unfortunately, her apartment building's management is extremely careless. There's currently no manager, which means that repairs and activities like shoveling are rarely ever done. This also means that the pathway was not shoveled or salted. Beth ended up putting on her breaks for the oncoming traffic, but the ice in front of her caused her car to keep sliding-- right into the other lady's car.
Neither driver was injured. (Beth's foot is just giving her some problems.) This is the first time our family has ever dealt with a car accident. With my surgery last month and Beth's accident today, we're experiencing a lot of "firsts" lately.
Shawn and I waited with Beth while our parents drove down to Milwaukee. After the car was towed, and the police report was filled out, Shawn and I took Beth back home with us where we had dinner. I think she was feeling a lot better by the time Zack picked her up. <3 I'm so glad she's not hurting too badly. I seriously wanted to stay hugging her the whole time she was here.
