Another night without sleep

Ever since I got sick last week, I haven't been able to sleep. When I had the usual cold symptoms (like a sore throat and stuffy nose) I couldn't sleep because of the constant need to blow my nose or pop a cough drop in my mouth. Now I can't sleep because one of my medicines backfired on me.

Afrin, my beloved nose spray, works a little too well on me. It clears up my nose so much when I use it that it also lets in cold, dry air every time I take a breath. Considering how much I breathe, I'm never without a dry and achy throat. This makes it impossible for me to even get a few minutes worth of sleep.

The lack of sleep is starting to affect me now. I have this horrible pain in the back of my head (the neck area) and I start getting dizzy when I do very minor things during the day. Unfortunately, I discovered the cause of the problem a little too late tonight. I used Afrin around midnight (after waking up from an hour and a half "nap") and it takes about twelve hours to wear off on me. The question I'm wondering right now is whether I'll have to wait until the medicine fully wears off before I can actually rest.

Going without sleep is making me crazy. If I'm in bed, I toss and turn. If I try to take my mind off my throat by watching TV or going on the computer, I start coughing out of irritation towards how my breathing hurts.

I'm pissed. I'm kind of hoping that I'll pass out by accident from pure exhaustion. At least I'd be getting sleep then.

sick, medicine, sleep
