Trans thoughts room 101

On the subject of American attitudes...

When I was in Chicago a few trans women pointed out a prominent US trans activist, Anja. She lives in Alsaka (Sarah Palin land!). Turns out Anja was in 100% stealth and unknown as TS But when a local State law alteration threatened that "unless you had been born in specific gender then you would be denied access to certain gender related public services" then Anja felt she had to act and fight the ruling.

She came out as TS and hosts a radio show "Good Morning Trans-America", pod casts are available but I haven't listened to one yet but I have explored the website:

I think it's wonderful.

I read transgender discussions on websites such as Angels UK, those in the Charing Cross hospital yahoo group chat board, the various groups that exist in places like Facebook and then half way round the world find this going on.

It makes me feel quite emotional.

Enough with the bickering already, I want to live. I choose life.

Yesterday Emma and I were in Kingston and Richmond all day preparing for Christmas. No one cared about us (as an odd couple or two women out or my appearance) as we walked about, shopping, having lunch or tea and chatting and laughing with people we met along the way.

These days it seems the only place I experience people seemingly pulling their own or each other's hair out is online in UK transgender "support" websites. It's such a shame.

Can we not unify and be supportive of some of the crap that we have to face as (TS) women?

What is it with people here in England?

As a friend of mine said:

I've seen it happening online for all the years i've been around these things vicky... and it's a world away from whats happening out outside... i'm glad you have seen the way trans people in the states work together.... because they have to fight for their rights...

And i've been [thinking] a lot about this lately, and my struggle at the moment seeing the lie of the land, where things are now going with rights and discrimination in the UK, how the equality act was going to pants... and the worry that we will do the same old thing, people will moan in forums and nothing gets done.... when we can all do something to help, and you can be stealth or not... but we have to stop the sniping at each other and move forward....

Jameson Green, a lovely trans man and activist who i've had the pleasure to meet and chat with addressed San Francisco Pride a few years ago about trans rights and issues.... 750,000 people.......there are now trans advisors in the white house.... who would ever of thought that would happen, these people seriously rock....

They are the reason we have Trans day of Remembrance.... their grief, anger and respect drove that day to happen around the world.... Ethan St Pierre is another lovely man....

self empowerment is a very strong tool... embracing who you are is too.... put the 2 together..... is a potent mix....
