Weekend was productive. Took me all weekend but I was able to complete my rpough draft for my research paper.
Subject of my research paper was
"The deaf are more vulnerable to HIV infection than the hard of hearing and hearing community"
The research I found was very intresting.
The typical deaf person reads at a 4th or 5th grade level.
The literature for HIV edication is written at an 8th grade level, so alot of the information goes over their head. Evn if you use closed caption the terminology goes way to fast and is too technical.
They don't hear about it from the TV, or radio, casual conversations etc. The deaf communit tend to know very little about it or how its transmitted etc.
Shocked me that a friend of mine thought you could simply wash up after having sex with someone infected. I tried explaining how the disease works and how its transmitted and I got the deer in the head lights look. I asked the person to get tested and they said they did. I think the person was just being polite.
Anyhow its scary that in this day and age we still have people that just dont understand HIV infection etc.
