How Hugh unfolded after the end of House, or musings on my second Hugh Laurie concert

How Hugh unfolded after the end of House, or musings on my second Hugh Laurie concert.

First of all, I disagree: it's not a concert. It's a show, with music, probably his personal vision of a concert, but still, a show. With acting, scripted from beginning to end, with decors, too. A glimpse in the brilliant maze that this man's brain must be. ( Read more... )

Love this, Vicpei. Thank you for articulating it so well.

I would agree about this being a show but I definitely think it is also a concert because a concert is a setting where a band comes out, plays songs and leaves when the set is over. But Hugh also installs the theatrics and has a total vision of what his show should look like with the lamps, picture, etc... In essence what he has done is integrated all his strengths into his show: Acting, stand up comedy, and music. He is an entertainer and I think he is in his element. BTW, I could listen to him play the piano all day. He is that good.

I would love to hear his thoughts on how he came up with his attire and set design. It's all so interesting.

I thoroughly loved his show back in October at Golden Gate Park at the festival and the concert in Napa. I could definitely see progress and more comfort in his second show. He is getting better and better.

The drinking rumors? I have never thought he had a drinking issue. He is too controlling of a person, in my mind, to want to lose control. He did the same thing at our concert. He came out sipping a drink and nursed it until the whole band did the toast. He sipped on that and gulped the last bits when they were finished. I guess even that is scripted?

No idea what he has planned next but I really hope he keeps the music career rolling down the track. As he said this is more of who he really is than anything else.

As far as House look and anything related to it, I think he wants it buried and I suspect it is gone for good. The Hugh we are seeing now is most likely the one he likes the most.

Hugh has opened my eyes to the Blues and I have purchased several CDs from Professor Longhair, Dr John, JRM, James Booker, Tuts Washington and you get the idea. He accomplished what he set out to do with this fan.
